Old gun a piece of family to carry into future
By Ken M. Blomberg
“I took apart my 20-gauge double to clean it and darn if I can’t put it back together,” my father-in-law recently lamented. “I’ve taken it apart hundreds of times, this only happened once before.”
We had just finished dinner, so I cleared a space on the kitchen table and replied with a grin, “Well then, go upstairs and fetch it down here and I’ll help you out.”
Anytime I can entice John into showing me his classic L.C. Smith shotgun, I jump at the chance. The gun itself is a beauty. Purchased as a present for his father by his mother nearly 100 years ago, it is indeed a family treasure.
