Julian J. Wierzba
Julian J. Wierzba, 85, town of Buena Vista, died unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, of heart failure.
He was born Aug. 21, 1932, in the town of Stockton, to the late John and Lillian Wierzba. He was the oldest of nine children.
He was married to Romaine Sankey on Nov. 23, 1953, at St. Mary Mount Carmel Church, Fancher.
He entered the United States Army on March 24, 1953, and served in Korea. He was honorably discharged on March 16, 1955. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon and the United Nations Service Medal.
He was a member of Almond American Legion Post 339 for more than 55 years.
He worked at Cleaver Brooks in Milwaukee, Vetters Manufacturing in Stevens Point, Turzinski Poultry in Almond, Frito Lay in Sheridan, Beaver Power Washers in Plover and Helbach Farms in Amherst. He farmed in the town of Almond until 1987, when he moved to Buena Vista.
Survivors include his wife, Romaine Wierzba, Buena Vista; son-in-law, Roger Omernik, Stevens Point; two daughters, Marcie (Tim) Pagel, Neenah, and Julie (Randy) Riebe, Georgetown, Texas; two sons, Randy (Jolynn) Wierzba, Almond, and Gary (Angela) Wierzba, Stevens Point; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry (Arlene) Wierzba; three sisters, Joan Yenter, Marie (Tom) Groshek and Rita Cline; two sisters-in-law, Rose (Maynard) Tetzloff and Rita (Dan) Betker; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Cindy Omernik and Jennie Peterson; one brother, Robert; and three sisters, Betty (Leroy) Glodowski, Regina (Arnold) Groshek and Edwina (Orville) Damrau.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 8611 Highway 54, Almond, with the Rev. Peter Manickam officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.
