SPASH girls golf aims to contend in WVC
By John Kemmeter
The Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) girls golf team will look to continue to progress from last season, when it advanced to state for the first time in program history.
The Panthers lost three of their top performers from a year ago, when they won the Clover Valley Golf League(CVGL) Title and went on to place ninth at the WIAA Division 1 State Meet.
SPASH is set to open this season with a meet at the Stevens Point Country Club Friday, Aug. 11, while it has its sights on contending for the Conference Title in the first year of girls golf in the Wisconsin Valley Conference (WVC).
“We have high expectations,” said SPASH girls golf head coach Mark Lesinski. “We made it to state last year, but there’s a little bit of nerves going in, since three of our seniors graduated last year.
“So now we have some younger sophomores that need to step up, and this will be their first opportunities as varsity players,” he said. “I’m excited to give them the opportunity, and hopefully we can build upon where we were last year.”
