Mrs. Sadlemyer was born April 14, 1942, to the late Robert and Mildred (Damitz) Albert in Wisconsin Rapids. She grew up there and attended St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran School, where she was baptized and confirmed. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1960.
Following high school, she attended the Evangelical Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Milwaukee. She returned to Wisconsin Rapids and became the head nurse in the obstetrics department at St. Michael’s Hospital, Stevens Point.
She was married to James F. Sadlemyer May 4, 1963, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. They later moved to Stevens Point and raised a family. They were blessed with 47 years of marriage until his death June 6, 2010.
While at St. Michael’s Hospital, Mrs. Sadlemyer began the community’s first prenatal program. Though she enjoyed her work, she eventually redirected her focus and began a career in Infection Control in 1974. While still working at St. Michael’s, she furthered her education and received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Milton College in 1982. After 42 years of dedication, she retired in 2006 as an infection control specialist.
She enjoyed helping people, and family was extremely important to her. She always “made time” for her children and grandchildren; especially to attend their sporting events.
Mrs. Sadlemyer also loved to travel and enjoyed numerous visits to the Door County area. She also relished steamboat trips with her husband, James, on the Mississippi River. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing and doing various craft projects, including making dolls and her two granddaughters’ flower girl dresses. She enjoyed celebrating the holiday seasons with her family, especially Christmas.
After retiring, she took an interest in researching her family history. She was a dedicated member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stevens Point.
Survivors include two children, Jeffrey Sr. (Rhonda) Sadlemyer, Plover, and Suzanne (Mark) Schoff, Wisconsin Rapids; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Jr. (Dana) Sadlemyer, Plover, James Sadlemyer, Stevens Point, Sara Sadlemyer, Middleton, Kaitlyn Schoff and Dexter Schoff both of Wisconsin Rapids; two great-grandchildren, Sawyer Sadlemyer and Atleigh Sadlemyer, both of Plover; two sisters, Bobbie Wiese, Friendswood, Texas, and Lisa (Roger) Crump, Bradenton, Fla.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
