SPASH tennis captures Valley team title

The Panthers capped off their undefeated Wisconsin Valley Conference season with a conference championship last Friday.

SPASH took home titles in four of the seven positions - No. 1 and No. 4 singles and No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

Senior Ann Howley started things off by winning the No. 1 singles title and Stefani VanKleef grabbed the No. 4 championship.

VanKleef defeated Marshfield's Emily Chronquist, 6-2, 6-1; Wisconsin Rapids' Dana Tempas, 6-4, 6-3; and Wausau West's Tara Krouse, 7-6 (7-1), 6-1.

Lauren Hom and Meagan Palmer teamed to take home the No. 1 doubles title. Hom and Palmer, who played No. 2 and No. 3 singles much of the season, beat Kerry Kretchmar and Tammy Petchert of Marshfield in the final, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6.

The duo of Casie Crubaugh and Jessie Palmer took top honors at No. 3 doubles. They disposed of Meredith Perryman and Amy Voight of Wisconsin Rapids, 7-5, 6-3 in the championship.

Colleen Dougherty grabbed a third place finish at No. 2 singles and the No. 2 doubles team of Amber Yudchitz and Bailey Menzel won the consolation title for SPASH. Claire Boylan dropped her only two matches at No. 3 singles.
