Rosholt girls run to fourth consecutive conference championship
The Rosholt High School girls cross country team enacted revenge on Wittenberg-Birnamwood and won its fourth straight
conference championship last Thursday.
The Hornets, who lost to the Chargers three weeks ago at the Rosholt Invitational, scored 20 fewer points than
W-B, and won the title with 40. Tami Scott finished first for Rosholt, grabbing the runner-up spot. Jen Zdroik
was fifth to become the first Rosholt runner to win all-conference honors four times.
The Hornets have had two frontrunners all season and coach Mike Trzebiatowski said the keys to the victory weren't
Scott and Zdroik.
"With solid pack running from the third through the seventh slots, we beat a Wittenberg team that two weeks
earlier had beaten us by 10 at our home invite," Trzebiatowski said. "We did a little soul searching
and gave them a little more rest and it worked out very well."
Jacki Yenter (10th), Nicky Bembenek (11th) and Lisa Yenter (12th) clinched the victory while Amy Scott and Lyndsey
Peplinski also ran.
"Our strength today was the pack of Jackie Yenter, Nicky Bembenek, Lisa Yenter, Amy Scott and Lyndsey Peplinski.
They laid it on the line and came through with clutch, gutsy efforts." |
