Amherst spikers win outright championship in CWC

Amherst won two of three matches against Wittenberg-Birnamwood last Thursday to secure its third straight Central Wisconsin Conference large school division title. The Falcons (12-2), who had already clinched a share of the championship, won the conference outright by surging past the Chargers 15-11, 15-3, 13-15.

"We started out with some mistakes early in the first game to keep it close, but from that point on we played well," Amherst coach Gregg Jensen said. "We had a good match to lock up the conference championship. We've shown good improvement as the season has gone on to put us in this position."

Meghan Simkins had 15 kills and Melissa Kayon added eight for the Falcons. Becca Konkol handed out 14 assists and Betsy Hoffman led Amherst with nine serving points.
