SPASH

Girls basketball: SPASH's season came to an end in heartbreaking fashion Saturday night in a 61-60 overtime loss to Menasha at home in the WIAA Regional. The Bluejays hit a 3-pointer with one second remaining to steal the win. SPASH (17-5) led 42-33 entering the fourth quarter before Menasha rallied to send the game into overtime. Janel McCarville led the Panthers with 16 points and Michele Rosicky had 15.

Hockey: The Panthers advanced to state with a 4-2 victory over Wisconsin Rapids in the WIAA Sectional final at D.C. Everest. SPASH jumped to a 3-0 lead but the Red Raiders scored two straight goals, the second with just over 12 minutes to go. The Panthers came right back though, adding an insurance goal only seconds later. Josh Kujawa, Eric Anderson, Justin Danielski and Noah Johnson all scored goals for SPASH. Shaun Kruzitski had 22 saves for the Panthers.

SPASH got by Antigo 2-1 last Thursday night in the sectional semifinal. Marty Schultz's game-winning goal in the third period allowed the Panthers to move on. Adam Kostichka scored in the second period to tie the game at 1-1. Kruzitski made 5 saves.

Pacelli

Boys basketball: Pacelli took control of Wausau Newman in the first half and rolled to a 62-50 WISAA Regional Tuesday night. The Cardinals outscored Newman 16-7 in the first quarter and 14-6 in the second. Jim Czlapinski had 15 points, Kurt Kramer scored 14 and Josh Owens had 12.

The Cardinals (6-4 in the Central Wisconsin Catholic Conference) stumbled in the third quarter in a 60-44 loss to Regis Saturday. The Ramblers outscored Pacelli 18-8 in the quarter to take a 42-31 lead. Owens led the Cardinals with 11 points and Nate Swenson chipped in 10.
Pacelli topped Madison Abundant Life 51-42 last Thursday. Swenson had 14 points and Czlapinski had 10.

Girls basketball: Eau Claire Regis ended Pacelli's season Monday night, downing the Cardinals 37-31 in the WISAA Regional. The Ramblers outscored the Cardinals 10-3 in the second quarter and held on in the final minutes. Laura McCorkell had 14 points and Lindsey Radomski added 10.
The Cardinals trailed by 19 points at halftime but a furious rally wasn't enough in a 50-45 loss at Marshfield Columbus last Thursday. Radomski scored 15 points and McCorkell had 12.

Amherst

Boys basketball: Amherst (21-0) pulled away in the third quarter in a WIAA Regional win at Menominee Indian Tuesday, 71-47. The Falcons outscored Menominee 24-10 in the third quarter to take a 57-33 lead. Dylan Page had 31 points and 13 rebounds while Eden Weller scored 20 points.

Girls basketball: The Falcons withstood a Nekoosa rally for a 47-40 win at Bonduel in the WIAA Regional final. Amherst led 30-16 after the first half and held on after a third quarter run by the Papermakers cut the Falcon advantage to 36-31 entering the fourth quarter. Nekoosa got within 44-40 with about two minutes to go before Amherst sealed the win at the free throw line. Meghan Simkins scored 18 points to pace Amherst. Anne Stanislawski added 14.

Amherst pulled away in the fourth quarter in a 56-50 Regional win over Rosholt in Auburndale last Thursday. The Falcons lead 42-41 entering the fourth quarter and then outscored the Hornets 14-9 in the final period. Jenni Orsund had 19 points and Simkins scored 12 points and had 12 rebounds.

Almond-Bancroft

Boys basketball: The Eagles fell apart in the fourth quarter as Wild Rose ended A-B's season 64-55 in the WIAA Regional at Wild Rose. The Wildcats outscored A-B 27-8 in the fourth quarter, erasing a 47-37 deficit. Kent Dernbach scored 20 points to lead A-B and Chris Leary had 10.

Girls basketball: Undefeated Iola-Scandinavia ended A-B's season Saturday, handing the Eagles a 50-35 loss at Wild Rose in the WIAA Regional final. A-B (14-9) was deadlocked with the Thunderbirds after one quarter, but I-S outscored the Eagles 15-0 in the second quarter. A-B rallied to get within single digits in the fourth quarter but never got within serious striking distance of the lead. Ellen Riggenbach was A-B's leading scorer with eight points.

Strong second and third quarters gave the Eagles a 62-48 WIAA Regional win over Bowler last Thursday. Sarah Berry led the way with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Stephanie Jenz had 12 points.

Rosholt

Boys basketball: Auburndale was just too much for the Hornets as the Apaches cruised to a 61-18 Auburndale win in a WIAA Regional Tuesday. Rosholt never got its offense going and Auburndale jumped to a 21-4 lead after one quarter. Bryce Domask was Rosholt's leading scorer with seven points.

Girls basketball: Amherst ended Rosholt's season last Thursday, 56-50, in the WIAA Regional in Auburndale. The Hornets (18-4) trailed by one, 42-41, at the start of the fourth quarter but the Falcons pulled away, outscoring Rosholt 14-9 in the fourth. Amy Scott had 18 points and 11 rebounds while Jenna Eschenbauch had 12 and Christine Check 11.
