Simonson moves up to Stockton

Former Pacelli High School and University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point star pitcher Chris Simonson is getting a promotion.

Simonson, who was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers last month and sent to rookie ball in Montana, is making the move to the organization's Class A team in Stockton, Calif. During his short stint with the Helena Brewers of the Pioneer League, Simonson led the league in earned run average.

In his six starts, he finished 3-0 and allowed just eight earned runs in 37 innings for a 1.95 ERA. He also had 29 strikeouts and only eight walks for Helena.

The Stockton Ports are 9-17 in the second half and are in last place in the Northern Division of the California League.

After graduating from UW-SP as the team's all-time winningest pitcher, the Brewers selected Simonson in the 43rd round of the June draft.
