Point 15s advance in Ruth league

Strong pitching and hot bats are taking the Stevens Point 15-year-old Babe Ruth team to state.

The traveling team beat up on Northwoods/Rhinelander last Friday to advance to tourney in Janesville.

In Friday's first game, Point pitcher Brandon Orlikowski shut down Rhinelander, allowing only four hits and no runs in a 15-0 victory. The game was ended after five innings because of the 10 run rule.

After two scoreless innings, Point broke the game open with a seven-run third inning. Leading the way offensively were Brad Heeg and Orlikowski with two hits apiece.

In the second game, Garrett Weddle and Jake Jahnke shared mound duties, combining for a one-hitter. Point exploded for 14 runs in the second inning of the game, which was shortened by the 10 run rule.

Eric Napiwocki had three hits, while Andrew Scherer, Josh Przekurat and Brad Heeg each collected two hits.

Point headed to Janesville Wednesday for the state tournament.
