Mazzoleni headed to Harvard
Former University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point hockey coach Mark Mazzoleni, who led the Pointers to three NCAA Division
III National Championships, is now the head coach at Harvard University.
Mazzoleni, who is leaving Miami University (Ohio) to take the post, was with UW-SP from 1985-1991. During that
time, he guided the Pointers to NCAA titles in 1988-89, 1989-90 and 1990-91. His teams finished with a 140-52-10
(.715) record during his tenure.
Now Mazzoleni becomes just the fourth head coach of Harvard hockey since 1950 and replaces Ronn Tomassoni, who
stepped down in May after nine seasons.
"I was very honored first to be considered and then to be offered the hockey coaching position at Harvard,"
Mazzoleni said. "I have great respect for the program's rich history, and was drawn to the school because
it is so consistent with my beliefs philosophically.
"It needed to be a perfect fit for me to leave Miami."
The Crimson has a storied history in hockey, with a program whose origins date back to 1895-96. The team has made
16 NCAA Tournament appearances, most recently in 1994, and won the 1988-89 NCAA Championship. |
