Plover hosts Legion regional

Plover's Memorial Park will play host to this weekend's Class AAA Region 2 American Legion tournament.

The five-team, double elimination tourney starts Friday and the winner advances to the State Tournament the following weekend.

The host Plover Black Sox Post 543 kicks off the regional with a 2 p.m. contest against Marshfield. Defending champion Wausau Post 10 takes on Wisconsin Rapids in the second game while Stevens Point Post 6 faces the winner of Game 1 at 8 p.m. to end the first day of action.

The tournament continues with three games Saturday and two games on Sunday. If the championship isn't decided Sunday, the two remaining teams will square off Monday, July 26 at 8 p.m.

The State Tournament is being held next weekend, July 30- Aug. 3 at Johannes Park in Green Bay. The winner of that tournament advances to the Central Plains National Regional in Dickinson, N. Dak. Aug. 12-16. The American Legion World Series will be held in Middleton, Conn. Aug. 20-24.
