Johnson returns to Pacelli post

A familiar face will be leading Pacelli High School's girls volleyball team this year.

Shelly Johnson, who coached the Cardinals from 1982-84, is taking over for Kelly Peter. Peter resigned to take a job in Schofield.

"I'm excited to be returning to Pacelli," Johnson said. "Even though it's been some time, I still feel a real loyalty to Pacelli. I know most of the players from my work with the Impact Volleyball Club and know their talent levels and abilities."

Since Johnson left Pacelli in 1984, she has coached at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, P.J. Jacobs Junior High and worked with the USA Volleyball-sanctioned Impact Volleyball Club.

"Shelly brings a great deal of experience to this position and an enthusiasm for the sport that I'm certain will rub off on everyone connected," said Terry Owens, Pacelli athletic director.

Johnson and the Cardinals start practicing August 16 and competition begins August 28 with the Amherst Invitational.

She is the school's third volleyball coach in as many years. Longtime coach Faith Petrick left after the 1997 season.
