Hall takes gold at Pan Am Games

Plover's Dennis Hall added another gold medal to his trophy case Sunday at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Canada.

The Greco-Roman wrestler, who won the silver medal in the 1996 Olympics, took the 58k/127.75 lb. class for his second career Pan American Games title. He also won the gold in 1995.

In the championship match, Hall pinned Cuba's Roberto Monzon in 2:39. Trailing 2-0 in the first period, Hall stepped over an attempted gut wrench, reversed Monzon and pinned him.

"It was just a counter. He went with a gut wrench that wasn't tight enough," Hall said of Monzon's failed move that led to the pin.

"It was the same move that I used in the Olympics against the Koreans. The guy on top was getting tired."

Hall is currently shooting for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, which will start a little over a year from now.

"I'm wrestling for Dennis Hall. You have to want it so bad. The Pan Ams are great preparation for the Olympics," he said.
