Local tennis players place in SentryWorld tournament
Two local boys captured championships in the Wisconsin State Junior Challenger Tennis Championships at SentryWorld
last weekend.
Tim Moller of Plover defeated Jonathan Bodager of Green Bay to become the Boys 10 and under Singles Champion. Moller
dominated the match, winning 6-1, 6-1.
Matthew Clegg of Stevens Point was the Boys 12 Singles Champion. Clegg beat Edward Toussaint of Appleton 6-0, 6-0
en route to the finals. In the title match, he overcame Rehan Mirza of Adams 6-1, 6-3.
Ashley Jurgella of Stevens Point lost to No. 1 seeded Michelle Hofmeister of Oshkosh in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-1;
but captured third place when she defeated Jackie Huebner of Appleton 6-1, 6-1.
Maria Davis of Custer lost in the Girls 14 Singles Consolation final to Alexandra Burleigh of Verona 6-1, 6-1.
Plover's Meghan Palmer teamed with Marshfield's Kerry Kretchmar to defeat Neenah's Jennifer Parker and Lindsey
Drzewiecki, 6-2, 6-2 in the Girls 18 Doubles semi-finals. Palmer and Kretchmar fell short in the finals, though,
losing to Crystal Ertman (West Bend) and Tara Amarnani (Green Bay) in a close match 0-6, 6-2, 7-5. |
