High school fall sports season kicking off

The 1999-2000 school year is less than two weeks away and local high school teams are kicking off the fall sports season.

Area WIAA Division 1 and 3 football, girls golf, girls swimming and diving and girls tennis already started practice Aug. 9 and 10. Three more sports jump into their practice schedule Monday Aug. 16 - boys and girls cross country, boys soccer and girls volleyball.

The Stevens Point Area Senior High cross country teams have their first practice at 8 a.m. Monday. All interested boys and girls in grades 7 through 12 should meet in the fieldhouse with their WIAA cards.

The SPASH boys soccer team begins its week of tryouts Monday at 8 a.m., at the Madison School fields. Participants must turn in their WIAA cards and athletic codes before beginning practice.

SPASH's girls volleyball team will have tryouts for varsity and junior varsity Monday and Tuesday from 9-11:30 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m.

Pacelli High's cross country teams will meet Monday at the high school at 8 a.m. for their first practice. The Pacelli girls volleyball team also starts Monday at 8 a.m. at the high school. And the Pacelli soccer team holds its first practice Monday at 5 p.m., at Lake Pacawa in Plover.
