SPASH
Boys basketball: SPASH (2-11, 1-8) lost
to Antigo, 60-48, on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Will Smith scored 17 points to pace the team. Ted Schlafke and Wes Sutton
had 13 points each.
The team lost to Marshfield, 63-50, on Friday, Jan. 23. Schlafke led the team with
24 points. Sutton and Lucas Elliott added nine points apiece.
Girls basketball: The Panthers (5-8,
5-5) beat Antigo, 53-45, on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Sarah Petersen scored 16 points and Allison Smaglik tossed in 15
to power the offense.
The team lost to Marshfield, 63-46, on Friday, Jan. 23. Jessica Schlafke was the
leading scorer with 12 points. Allison Smaglik, Allison Reineck and Sara Eckerman added six points apiece.
Hockey: SPASH (12-3-1, 10-1-1) lost
to Wausau West, 3-1, on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Noah Kruzitski scored a goal with just over a minute left in the third
period to cut West's lead to 2-1, but Wausau added an empty-net goal to close the scoring.
The team beat Wisconsin Rapids, 4-3, on Thursday, Jan. 22. Brandon Busse scored
with 2:31 left in the game to provide the final margin. Michael Soik had a goal and two assists, while Ted Baier
and Tom DeWitt also found the back of the net. Travis Erstad added a pair of assists, including Busse's game-winner.
Coach Jack Stoskopf earned his 300th career victory for the Panthers with the win over Rapids.
Gymnastics: Wisconsin Rapids topped
the Panthers, 139.125-135.55 on Thursday, Jan. 22.
Kaity Munsey led the Panthers with a first in the bars, beam and floor exercise,
plus a first in all-around and a tie for second in the vault. The only other Panther to place in the top three
was Jen Grubba, who had a third in the bars. Finishing with fifth places were Sharisa Hillstead in bars, Kendra
Konopacky in beam, Jaime Rugg in floor, Rachel Von Holdt in vault and Grubba in all-around.
"The girls didn't show up with their best performances," said Panther
coach Jill Suchowski. "Rapids came ready to win and just outperformed us. We had a couple of falls on beam
and our bar scores weren't as high as normal. We did score well again on vault and floor, but need to add some
more skills by the conference meet."
SPASH won the JV meet, 111-105.9, with Morgan Rugg winning the all-around.
SPASH captured the Mosinee Invite with five schools on Saturday, Jan. 24, scoring
133.885 points, to outdistance runner-up D.C. Everest, with 128.575 points.
Munsey won the beam, bars, floor and all-around and finished second in the vault
to lead the Panthers. Grubba had a fourth in the beam, sixth in the vault and bars and eighth in the floor to finish
fifth in all-around. Konopacky had a fourth in the vault, a seventh in the beam and 10th in the floor and bars
to finish sixth in all-around. Hillstead took a fourth in bars. Jaime Rugg had sevenths in the bars and floor and
an eighth in vault to finish eighth in all-around. Von Holdt added a ninth in the vault.
"We had a very consistent meet," Suchowski said. "Our bar scores
improved and we had a better day on the beam. Jen had a strong beam routine and Jaime hit her bar routine. Katy
walked away with the all-around title. Sharisa Hillstead had her highest bar score today and she continues to improve.
Kendra stuck both vault and beam."
The SPASH JVs also won, with Morgan Rugg capturing the all-around title.
Wrestling: The Panthers finished
second at the Sheboygan North Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 24. Jon Slezak won the individual title at 140 pounds,
while Kyle Roth (103), Aaron Nelson (112) and Matt Wanta (Hwt) each took home third place finishes. The team finished
with 134 points, trailing only Ashwaubenon's 150.5 total.
Pacelli
Boys basketball:
The Cardinals (5-9, 3-7) lost to Menominee Indian, 78-62, on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Jake Owens led the team with 27
points, while Scott Herzog added 13. Jim Sadlemyer had 10 points and Bryon Shannon hauled in 13 rebounds. The Cards
were unable to overcome a 3-for-20 performance from 3-point land.
The team lost to Amherst, 75-56, on Friday, Jan. 23. Jake Owens was the leading
scorer with 22 points. Jim Sadlemyer chipped in with 11 points and Scott Herzog contributed 10. Amherst's Chris
Page torched the Cards with 38 points and 18 rebounds.
Girls basketball: Pacelli (10-4,
7-4) beat Menominee Indian, 79-54, on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Stephanie Fischer had 26 points and 10 rebounds and Kaitlyn
Lane added 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Cards have now won six out of their last seven games.
The team beat Amherst, 49-35, on Friday, Jan. 23. Kaityln King poured in 19 points,
and scored 10 of the team's first 12 points. Kaitlyn Lane added 17 points.
Amherst
Boys basketball:
The Falcons (9-5, 5-5) lost to Rosholt, 65-52, on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Chris Page scored 22 points to lead the team,
and Jeremiah Osborn added 15 points. Amherst trailed 41-36 entering the fourth quarter, but they were unable to
knock off the Hornets.
The team beat Pacelli, 75-56, on Friday, Jan. 23. Page was dominant, scoring 38
points and pulling down 18 rebounds. James Stokes added 12 points.
Girls basketball: Amherst (9-6,
7-4) lost to Rosholt, 50-47, on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Brittany Dick had 12 points and Margo Borgen chipped in with
11 points.
The team lost to Pacelli, 49-35, on Friday, Jan. 23. Dick led the team with 10
points. Borgen and Chritsty Cloninger added eight points apiece.
Rosholt
Boys basketball: Rosholt
(12-2, 8-2) beat Amherst, 65-52, on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Matt Zdroik poured in 24 points to beat their CWC large rival.
Adam Macht had 16 points and Ryan Richter added 11.
The team lost to Weyauwega-Fremont, 59-54, on Friday, Jan. 23. Ryan Richter was
the team's leading scorer with 23 points. Zdroik added 11 points and Macht chipped in with 10. Weyauwega out-scored
Rosholt 23-8 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.
Girls basketball: The Hornets (8-6,
5-5) beat Amherst, 50-47, on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Tracy Wierzba had 12 points to lead a balanced scoring effort. Renee
Wierzba added 11 points and Jamie Scott had 10, as Rosholt completed a season sweep of Amherst.
The team lost to Weyauwega-Fremont, 63-51, on Friday, Jan. 23. Renee Wierzba led
the team with 17 points. Scott added 14.
Almond-Bancroft
Boys basketball:
The Eagles (8-3, 7-2) beat Shiocton, 52-28, on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Randy Berry had 25 points and 20 rebounds, as
the team pulled to within a half game of Shiocton (8-2) for the CWC small lead. Eric Gendusa contributed 12 points.
Girls basketball: Almond (7-6, 7-3)
beat Shiocton, 47-45 in overtime, on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Jennifer Warzynski scored 17 points, including the game-winning
basket just before the overtime buzzer. Danielle Yonke chipped in with 10 points.
