SPASH
Boys basketball: The Panthers (3-7,
2-5) beat Merrill, 61-40, on Friday, Jan. 9. Ted Schlafke scored 21 points to lead the team. Wes Sutton added 11
points.
Girls basketball: SPASH (3-7) lost
to Merrill, 38-36, on Friday, Jan. 9. Sarah Peterson and Sara Eckerman each scored 11 points to lead the team.
Merrill's Amanda Hommerding hit two free throws with two seconds left in the game to provide the final margin.
Hockey: The Panthers (9-2-1, 7-0-1)
beat Wausau East, 5-1, on Thursday, Jan. 8. Nate Alm had three goals and an assist, and Jimmy Haluska contributed
four assists. Brandon Busse and Blake Porter also added goals for the team, with Scott Pavelski, Derek Schroth
and Tom DeWitt also picking up assists.
Gymnastics: SPASH finished second
at the La Crosse Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 10. Kaity Munsey won the all-around competition with a score of
35.925, after taking first place in the floor exercise, the beam and the bars. Jen Grubba finished fourth on the
beam and eighth in the all-around competition, while Kendra Konopacky placed third in the vault. The Panthers finished
with 133.900 points, just behind Holmen's 134.275.
Boys swimming: The Panthers beat
Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, 99-70, on Tuesday, Jan. 13. They won nine of 11 events, and the 200 freestyle relay team
of Evan Prince, Aaron Tetzloff, Josh Siebert and Phillip Potter set a SPASH pool record. Potter also won in the
200-meter individual medley and the 500 freestyle, and was a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay team along
with Tetzloff, Matt Koehler and Thomas Serafin. Other winners were Koehler (200 freestyle), Siebert (50 freestyle),
Tetzloff (100 butterfly), Serafin (100 backstroke) and Prince (100 breastroke).
Wrestling: The team lost to Sparta,
27-21, on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Matt Wanta (HWT) won by pin, Kyle Roth (103) won by technical fall, 16-0, and Tate
Roselius (160) won by major decision, 12-3. Aaron Nelson (112) picked up a 10-6 victory, while Jon Slezak (140)
won by forfeit to close out the team's scoring.
Pacelli
Boys basketball: The
Cardinals (4-6, 2-4) beat Manawa, 69-61, on Thursday, Jan. 8. Jim Sadlemyer scored 23 points and Jake Owens had
18 for Pacelli. Scott Herzog added 14 points.
Girls basketball: Pacelli (6-4,
3-4) beat Manawa, 56-30, on Thursday, Jan. 8. Kaitlyn Lane had 15 points and 13 rebounds, as the Cards led 25-11
at halftime and never looked back. Stephanie Fischer hauled in 24 rebounds for the Cards.
Wrestling: Pacelli beat Shiocton,
46-27, on Tuesday, Jan. 13. The Cardinals won seven matches by forfeit, while Jamie Klein (130 pounds) was a 9-1
winner.
The team lost to Spencer, 51-27, on Thursday, Jan. 8. Oliver Klein (125) won by
pin and Brian Napiwocki (145) won, 8-3, to highlight the team's performance.
Amherst
Boys basketball:
Amherst (6-4) beat Iola-Scandinavia, 61-54, on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Chris Page scored 22 points to lead the team to
the non-conference win. Jeremiah Osborn contributed 14 points.
Girls basketball: The Falcons (7-4)
lost to Iola-Scandinavia, 50-33, on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Margo Borgen led the way with 14 points
The team lost to Stratford, 63-49, on Thursday, Jan. 8. Teresa Green had 11 points
and 10 rebounds, as Amherst fell short in the non-conference match-up.
Rosholt
Boys
basketball: The Hornets (10-0, 6-0) beat Almond-Bancroft, 52-50, on Tuesday,
Jan. 13. Matt Zdroik scored 21 points to lead Rosholt in a battle of two teams ranked among the top 10 teams in
their respective divisions by Wishoops.net. Ryan Richter added 13 points.
The team beat Wittenberg-Birnamwood, 49-38, on Friday, Jan. 9. Matt Zdroik paced
the team with 18 points and five steals, while Adam Macht chipped in with 13 points. Rosholt is currently ranked
fifth in Division 3 in the Wishoops.net poll.
Girls basketball: Rosholt lost to
Wittenberg-Birnamwood, 65-40, on Friday, Jan. 9. Renee Wierzba led the team with 10 points. The Hornets fell behind
22-4 in the first quarter, and were unable to bounce back.
Wrestling: The Hornets beat Tri-County/Almond-Bancroft,
47-33, on Thursday, Jan. 8. Jamie Yenter (135 pounds), Tom Dally (140), Dustin Groshek (145), Matt Zander (152),
Donny Carter (171), Jarrod Lepak (189) and Dean Zakrzewski (HWT) all won by pin. Devin Groshek (160) won by technical
fall, 17-0.
Almond-Bancroft
Boys basketball:
Almond (6-2, 5-1) lost to Rosholt, 52-50, on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Randy Berry had 17 points and 15 rebounds, while
Austin Lamb added 10 points. The Eagles trailed 28-19 at halftime, but out-scored Rosholt, 18-9, in the third quarter
to tie the game entering the fourth, but were ultimately done in by their 9-for-24 performance from the free throw
line.
The team handled Gresham, 82-36, on Friday, Jan. 9. Randy Berry had 24 points,
15 rebounds and seven blocked shots to lead the squad. Austin Lamb chipped in with 17 points. The Eagles are currently
ranked seventh in Division 4 in the Wishoops.net poll.
Girls basketball: The Eagles (5-5,
5-2) beat Gresham, 34-29, on Friday, Jan. 9. Danielle Yonke scored 15 points, and Dani Turzinski added seven for
Almond.
Wrestling: Tri-County/Almond-Bancroft
lost to Rosholt, 47-33, on Thursday, Jan. 8. Joel Banda (130 pounds), Judd Barden (215) and Oscar Segundo (103)
won by pin, while Kyle Gerard (119) won 15-13.
