SPASH
Boys basketball: SPASH lost to D.C.
Everest, 69-57, on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Ted Schlafke scored 34 points of the team's 57 points, while Will Smith added
nine.
The team lost to Seymour, 68-36, in their Sentry Classic finale, on Tuesday, Dec.
30. Schlafke scored nine points to lead the team, and was named with Wes Sutton to the National Division All-Tournament
team.
Girls basketball: The Panthers (4-5,
3-4) lost to D.C. Everest 45-42, on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Allison Smaglik led the team with 14 points. Sara Eckerman
and Sarah Peterson each chipped in 10 points.
Hockey: SPASH (8-2-1, 6-0-1) beat
D.C. Everest, 3-0, on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Michael Soik had two goals and Scott Pavelski scored once for the Panthers,
while Isaac Zurawski stopped 12 shots in goal for the shutout. Travis Erstad had two assists, while Jimmy Haluska,
Ted Baier and Brandon Busse had one each.
The Panthers lost to Mosinee, 5-0, in the title game of the Sentry Classic, on
Saturday, Jan. 3. SPASH had 50 shots on goal, but was unable to push one past Mosinee goalie Jake Michalski.
The team beat Middleton, 6-0, in the opener of the Sentry Classic, on Friday, Jan.
2. Soik had a goal and three assists, while Baier, Erstad, Derek Schroth, Noah Kruzitski and Lucas Suchon also
scored goals.
Boys swimming: The Panthers beat
Lakeland, 102-68, on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Phillip Porter won the 100-yard backstroke and the 50 freestyle and Evan
Prince won the 500 and 100 freestyle, while the duo also teamed with Josh Siebert and Aaron Tetzloff to win the
200 and 400 freestyle relays. Tetzloff also won the 100 butterfly.
The team finished seventh out of 15 teams at the Madison West Invitational on Saturday,
Jan. 3. The 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams took home third place finishes, as did Potter in the 200 freestyle.
Potter also finished fifth in the 100 freestyle, while Siebert was sixth in the 50 freestyle and Prince took eighth
in the 100 freestyle.
Wrestling: SPASH finished fifth
out of 48 teams at the two-day long Oshkosh On the Water Tournament, which ended on Tuesday, Dec. 30. Jon Slezak
took home the 140-pound title, while Kyle Roth (103) and Matt Wanta (Hwt) took home fourth-place finishes. Aaron
Nelson (112) placed fifth, Derek Onstad (119) was sixth, Tim Peterson (152) finished eight and Brian Novotny (130)
was 12th.
Pacelli
Boys basketball:
Pacelli (3-6, 1-4) lost to Wittenberg-Birnamwood, 60-57, on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Jake Owens had 23 points and seven
assists and Jim Sadlemyer also scored 23, but the Cards were unable to pull out the win. Owens moved into fourth-place
on Pacelli's all-time scoring list, passing his older brother, Josh Owens.
Girls basketball: The Cardinals
(5-4, 2-4) lost to Wittenberg-Birnamwood, 57-50, on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Kaitlyn King scored 22 points to lead the
team. Kaitlyn Lane and Stephanie Fischer each added eight points.
The team beat Almond Bancroft, 59-29, in their Sentry Classic finale, on Tuesday,
Dec. 30. Kaitlyn Lane scored 16 points, while Fischer added 12, as the Cardinals finished 2-0. Fischer was named
MVP of the American Division, while Lane was named to the All-Tournament team and Ally Rutta won the Hustle award.
Wrestling: Ben Klosinski (189) finished
11th at the two-day long Oshkosh On the Water Tournament, which ended on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
Amherst
Boys basketball: The
Falcons (4-4, 2-4) lost to Weyauwega-Fremont, 78-68, on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Chris Page poured in 33 points, while
Spencer Selbo chipped in with 12.
Girls basketball: Amherst (7-2,
5-2) beat Weyauwega-Fremont, 42-41, on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Margo Borgen hit the game winning shot with seven seconds
left, as the Falcons pulled out the win. Brittany Dick had 10 points, six rebounds and three assists to lead the
team, while Borgen added nine points.
Rosholt
Girls basketball: The
Hornets (7-3, 4-2) beat Port Edwards, 53-39, on Tuesday, Dec. 30. Renee Wierzba had 12 points and seven boards
to lead the team. Jamie Scott and Amber Kuklinski added 10 points apiece.
Wrestling: Rosholt lost to Auburndale,
55-15, on Monday, Jan. 5. Jamie Yenter (135) and Dean Zakrzewski (Hwt) each won by pin, while Devin Groshek (160)
won a 7-1 decision.
Groshek, Andy Osowski (119) and Donny Carter (171) each finished 6-1 at the two-day
long Northern Exposure Classic, which ended on Tuesday, Dec. 30. Tom Dally (140) and Zakrzewski each posted 5-2
records.
Almond-Bancroft
Boys basketball:
The Eagles (5-1, 4-1) lost to Iola-Scandinavia, 49-47, on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Randy Berry scored 13 points and Austin
Lamb added 10. Almond was out-scored 33-23 in the second half, after taking a 24-16 lead into halftime.
Girls basketball: Almond (4-5, 4-2)
lost to Iola-Scandinavia, 44-34, on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Dani Turzinski had 10 points and Shelly Pagel added seven.
The team lost to Pacelli, 59-29, in their Sentry Classic finale, on Tuesday, Dec.
30. Turzinski scored 14 points and was named to the American Division All-Tournament team.
