MEN'S BASKETBALL YOUTH DAY SET FOR JAN. 31:
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UW-SP) men's basketball team will host its third annual Youth Day in
conjunction with Honor America Day on Saturday, Jan. 31, when the Pointers host UW-La Crosse at 5 p.m. at the Quandt
Fieldhouse.
Children ages 13 and under will receive free admission into the game when accompanied
by a paying adult. The first 300 children will receive a miniature American flag. In addition, children will be
eligible to enter their names into a drawing to sit on the team bench during the game. Five names will be drawn
at 4:30 p.m. and announced prior to tipoff. The five winners in the drawing will also receive a T-shirt, photo
of the team and have their names announced when the players are introduced.
At halftime, there will be a drawing for the children that have registered prior
to the game, to win 20 regular-sized red, white and blue autographed basketballs. Kids are urged to arrive early
before the 5 p.m. tipoff to participate in the pre-game festivities. The event is sponsored by Cellcom.

SILENT AUCTION BEGINS THIS WEEK: UW-SP Athletics Department's silent auction will run before UW-SP basketball games and
during halftime of men's basketball games on Jan. 31 and Feb. 7.
For the UW-Platteville game on Feb. 7, the auction will open before the game and
during halftime and will officially close at the start of the second half of that game. The auction will take place
in the Brodhagen/Counsell Room, which is located in the hallway of Quandt Fieldhouse. All proceeds go to support
UW-SP athletics.

POINTER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: The UW-SP has announced the players of the week for the teams during the week ending Jan.
26.
Men's basketball:
Jason Kalsow led the Pointers to a 68-53 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday. Kalsow was nine-for-14 from the
field, and five-for-five from the free throw line to finish with 24 points. Kalsow had five rebounds, four assists,
four steals, two blocks and one three-point basket.
Women's basketball:
Amanda Nechuta of Mosinee scored 18 points on seven-for-14 shooting in the Pointers game against UW-Oshkosh. Nechuta
grabbed five rebounds and made all four of her free throw attempts. She also added two assists and two steals.
Men's hockey:
Ryan Scott of Plover won the 29th game of his career with a 3-2 victory over seventh-ranked Lake Forest College.
Scott made 29 saves, including a perfect 12 saves on 12 shots in the third period, to secure the win. Scott has
now moved into sixth place on the Pointers all-time wins list.
Women's hockey: Jennifer
Norris scored two goals to help lift the Pointers to a 4-2 victory over UW-River Falls. Norris scored a second
period power play goal, off an assist by Jana Jurkovich which turned out to be the game-winner. She later added
an insurance goal in the third period for the final margin of victory.
Men's swimming:
Alex Anderson won two individual events and took part in four winning relays at the Get to the Point Invitational
in Stevens Point. Anderson claimed the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:09.09 and then took the 100 breaststroke
in 58.54 seconds. The Pointers swept all four relay events on their way to the team title, with Anderson swimming
on each of them.
Women's swimming:
Jennie Roskopf earned the Pointers only individual victory at the Get to the Point Invitational. Roskopf claimed
top honors in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.77. She followed her win with a strong fourth-place
finish in the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:33.07. The Pointers finished second of nine teams in the event.
Men's track events:
Curt Johnson claimed first place in the 5,000-meter run at the UW-Whitewater Invitational, the first indoor meet
of the season. Johnson nipped teammate Mark LaLonde by 0.24 seconds at the wire, finishing in 14:55.02 seconds.
His time narrowly missed the provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships.
Men's field events:
Mitch Ellis placed second in his first collegiate meet at the UW-Whitewater Invitational. Ellis cleared 1.92 meters
in the high jump, placing second by just five centimeters.
Women's track events:
Jenna Mitchler ran a personal best and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the first event of
the season. Mitchler shaved nearly five seconds off her personal record in winning the 800 meters. She clocked
2:18.38 to eclipse the qualifying mark. She also ran on the fifth place 4 x 400 meter relay team.
Women's events: Stephanie
Renk helped the Pointers to the team title at the UW-Whitewater Invitational, by winning the high jump and placing
third in the long jump. Renk had personal bests in both events, clearing 1.58 meters in the high jump and 5.47
meters in the long jump. Her long jump mark provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Championships.
Wrestling: Mike
Hayes, a sophomore heavyweight, put the finishing touches on a 29-12 victory for the Pointers over UW-Oshkosh.
Hayes beat Nate Muckerheide, 5-2, to give the Pointers an insurmountable 23-12 lead. Hayes is now 10-4 on the season.
