SPASH
Boys basketball: The Panthers (3-12,
2-9) were defeated by Rhinelander, 75-64, on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Ted Schlafke poured in 29 points, and Wes Sutton
added 12.
The team lost to Wausau West, 54-52, on Friday, Jan. 30. Ted Schlafke scored 23
points, including a three-pointer with four seconds left to cut the score to 54-52, but West was able to hang on
for the win. Will Smith added 13 points.
Girls basketball: SPASH (6-9, 6-6)
beat Rhinelander, 56-44, on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Jessica Schlafke and Sarah Petersen scored 16 points each to lead
the way. Allison Smaglik added 12 points.
The team lost to Wausau West, 49-44, on Friday, Jan. 30. Smaglik had 12 points
and eight rebounds, and Schlafke added nine rebounds. The Panthers made a nice comeback after they trailed 30-16
at halftime, but were unable to come all the way back.
Hockey: The Panthers (13-4-1, 11-2-1)
beat Merrill, 11-1, on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Ted Baier had a hat trick and one assist to lead the victory. Jimmy Haluska
and Nate Alm each had a goal and two assists, while Blake Porter, Noah Kruzitski, Aaron Wessell, Michael Soik,
Logan Hytry and Brandon Busse also scored. Travis Erstad and Scott Pavelski each handed out a pair of assists.
The squad lost to Rhinelander, 3-2, on Thursday, Jan. 29. The team only mustered one goal each from Travis Erstad
and Michael Soik, despite out-shooting the Hodags 45-14. Ted Baier, Brandon Busse and Derek Schroth picked up assists.
Wrestling: SPASH (7-5, 3-4) beat
Wausau East, 59-9, on Thursday, Jan. 29. Chaz Self (171 pounds), Josh Pascavis (189), Aaron Nelson (112), Brandon
Raikowski (119) and Derek Tietz (135) all won by pin. Kyle Roth (103) and Jon Slezak (145) won by technical fall,
while Nate Groshek (215) won 5-1, Matt Wanta (Hwt) won 7-0, Corey Feltz (140) won 7-2 and Tate Roselius (160) won
11-2.
Pacelli
Girls basketball: The
Cardinals (11-5) lost to Eau Claire Regis, 60-37, on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Stephanie Fischer led the team with 15 points.
The Cards led 24-23 at halftime, but were outscored 37-13 in the second half by Regis, the second-ranked team in
Division 4.
The team beat Tri-County, 61-34, on Friday, Jan. 30. Fischer scored 17 points to
pace the girls, while Kaitlyn Lane chipped in with 14.
Wrestling: The Cards lost to Tri-County/Almond-Bancroft,
57-24, on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Jamie Klein (130 pounds), Brian Napiwocki (140), Ben Klosinski (189) and Nate Wachowiak
(215) all won by pin.
Amherst
Boys basketball:
The Falcons (10-5, 6-5) handled Wittenberg-Birnamwood, 62-43, on Friday, Jan. 30. Chris Page poured in 25 points
and Spencer Selbo added 10.
Girls basketball: The team (9-7,
7-5) lost to Wittenberg-Birnamwood, 61-43, on Friday, Jan. 30. Christy Cloninger had 10 points and 12 rebounds,
while Brittany Dick led the team in scoring with 12 points, and also pulled in eight rebounds.
Wrestling: Amherst lost to Bonduel,
59-15, on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Mo Malone (112 pounds) and Brandon Sopa (119) won by pin, while Bert Soyka (152) won
9-7.
Rosholt
Boys basketball:
The Hornets (12-2, 8-2) beat Menominee Indian, 54-38, on Friday, Jan. 30. Matt Zdroik had 20 points and Adam Macht
chipped in with 12 points. Rosholt outscored Menominee 23-10 in the fourth quarter to pull away.
Wrestling: Rosholt lost to Stratford,
62-7, on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Matt Zander (152 pounds) won by major decision, 13-2, and Donny Carter (171) won 5-1.
Almond-Bancroft
Boys basketball: Almond
(11-3, 10-2) defeated Port Edwards, 54-46, on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Randy Berry scored 24 points in the win. Greg Otto
added 11 points.
The team beat Bowler, 66-50, on Friday, Jan. 30. Berry led the way with 28 points,
17 rebounds and five blocks. Austin Lamb contributed 13 points.
Girls basketball: The Eagles (9-6,
9-3) beat Port Edwards, 54-37, on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Dani Turzinski and Danielle Yonke poured in 16 points apiece
to power the team. Tiffany Buckenberger added nine points.
The girls beat Bowler, 37-29, on Friday, Jan. 30. Danielle Yonke was the team's
leading scorer with 12 points.
