SPYBA HOLDS PLAYER REGISTRATION FEB. 14:
The Stevens Point Youth Baseball Association (SPYBA) will hold player registration on Saturday, Feb. 14, from 9
a.m. to noon in CenterPoint MarketPlace. Registration will be located in front of Dunham's Sports.
Youth between the ages of 6 and 15 that are interested in signing up for the 2004
season may do so in person on Feb. 14, or may pick up registration materials and register by mail by March 18.
Registration materials may also be picked up at the Stevens Point Park and Recreation
Department, 2442 Sims Ave.; Sportco, 3100 Minnesota Ave.; Dunham's Sports; Play it Again Sports, 3272 Church St.;
or DigiCopy, 257 Division St.
SPYBA President Bob Schipferling said, "We are proud to once again be able offer the youth of Stevens Point
an opportunity to play baseball without increasing our registration fees." Player fees range from $15 to $40
depending on age categories.
Last year nearly 500 youth participated in SPYBA's various leagues.

POINTER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: The UW-SP has announced the players of the week for the teams during the week ending Feb.
2.
Men's basketball:
Nick Bennett of Stevens Point shot 65.6 percent from the field and set a new career-high in points in three games
this week. Bennett scored a career-best 29 points in a victory over UW-Stout. For the week, he was 21-for-32 from
the floor, including nine-for-15 from the three-point line. He made 16 of his 18 free throw attempts, had 11 assists,
nine rebounds and two steals.
Women's basketball:
Amy Scott of Rosholt shot 65 percent from the field as the Pointers picked up victories over UW-Stout and UW-La
Crosse this week. For the week, she scored 30 points on 13-for-20 shooting, made all four of her free throws, had
five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
Women's hockey:
Hilary Bulger netted two goals on Saturday and one on Sunday as the Pointers completed a season shutout of Lake
Forest College.
Men's swimming:
Matt Grunwald won two individual events and took part in a winning relay as the Pointers claimed their 42nd consecutive
WIAC dual meet 146-97 over UW-La Crosse.
Men's diving:
Chad Pettis claimed both the one-meter and three-meter events in a dual meet with UW-La Crosse.
Women's swimming: Jennie Roskopf won the 200-yard breaststroke in the Pointers' dual meet against UW-La Crosse.
Men's track events:
Chad Ellis earned his first collegiate event victory, winning the 400-meter dash at the Pointer Invitational on
Saturday.
Men's field events:
Mark Wierzba of Rosholt became the first Pointer to secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships
when he covered 18.57 meters in the 35-pound weight throw. His toss exceeded the automatic qualifying standard.
Women's track events: Jenna
Mitchler ran to a first-place finish in the 3,000 meters at the Pointer Invitational.
Women's field events:
Julia Slabosheski claimed first place in the shot put at the Pointer Invitational.
Wrestling: Brady
Holtz picked up two victories in dual matches this week to run his season record to 10-6.

HEUER AND KRAEMER BOTH HIT 1,000 MARK: UW-SP's Andrea Kraemer and Cassandra Heuer both reached 1,000 career points on Wednesday,
Jan. 28, as the Pointers held off UW-Stout for a 72-66 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball
victory at Berg Gymnasium.
Heuer hit a short jumper with 19:26 remaining in the game to become the 13th player
in school history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
Kramer then joined the elite group with a pair of free throws with 3:38 left, making
her the 14th player in UW-SP history to reach 1,000 career points.
Pointers' junior Amanda Nechuta hit 1,000 points on Jan. 13, giving the Pointers
three 1,000-point scorers in the same season for the first time ever.
