Baseball (13-9 overall, 7-5 WIAC): The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UW-SP) won four of eight games last week and has five days off this week before hosting UW-Superior for a four-game series over the weekend.

The Pointers swept a non-conference doubleheader from Lakeland by 9-3 and 8-6 scores on Monday to extend their winning streak to nine straight games. The streak ended two days later as they dropped two games to second-ranked UW-Oshkosh, 16-11 and 4-1, before splitting a four-game series with UW-Stout over the weekend. On Saturday, the Pointers lost, 5-4, in 12 innings and won, 3-1, in 10 innings. On Sunday, they won, 10-5 and lost 20-6.

Senior Matt Peetz continued his torrid hitting by hitting .515 (17-for-33) for the week with 10 RBIs and eight runs scored. Peetz was seven-for-nine on Sunday at UW-Stout and now has a 15-game hitting streak while hitting .509 for the season.

Jake Frombach hit .432 (16-for-37) for the week with 10 runs scored and five RBI's. He was four-for-four in the opening game against UW-Oshkosh.

Matt Simonson of Plover pitched nine innings for the week without allowing an earned run, while striking out four and walking one. Jeremy Mueller pitched six shutout innings and allowed three hits in Sunday's win at UW-Stout.

Softball (13-17 overall, 4-7 WIAC): UW-SP won three of its nine games last week and plays seven more this week - all on the road - with two games at Lakeland on Tuesday and five games in the WIAC cluster in La Crosse.

The Pointers opened the week with a split against UW-Oshkosh, winning, 9-1, and losing ,8-0. They also split with St. Norbert, losing, 1-0, and winning, 5-0. Over the weekend, the Pointers won one game at the WIAC cluster in Platteville, beating UW-La Crosse, 5-1, on Sunday. They lost to UW-Eau Claire, 9-3; UW-River Falls, 2-1; UW-Superior, 4-3;and UW-Stout, 11-3. UW-River Falls and UW-Superior both scored the winning runs in the seventh inning.

Sophomore Rebekah Bauer of Stevens Point continued her impressive season by hitting .481 (13-for-27) last week with 10 RBI's, four doubles and seven runs scored. She had two home runs and six RBI's in the opening-game win over UW-Oshkosh. She is hitting .370 for the year with 12 doubles and six home runs.
Mandy Jellish hit .393 for the week (11-for-28) and is now hitting a team-high .371 for the season.

Kelly Schmidt pitched a complete game in the win over UW-La Crosse. She also combined with Amanda Maule and Alysia Klawitter for a shutout against St. Norbert.

Track and field: The Pointer men's team was second and the women's team placed seventh over the weekend at the Augustana Invitational in Rock Island, Ill.

The men's squad had 148.5 points and UW-Whitewater won the meet with 165 points. The Pointer women totaled 94 points as UW-Oshkosh won the team title with 187 points.

Andrew Schliepp won the 110-meter high hurdles in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 14.89 seconds. Curt Johnson edged teammate Mark LaLonde in the 5,000-meter run by seven-hundredths of a second with a time of 15:03.22.

The women's team had three individual champions that all reached NCAA provisional times. Jenna Mitchler won the 800-meter run in 2:14.32, Megan Craig claimed the one-mile run in 5:00.52 and Ashleigh Potuznik won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:11.40. Melissa Seefeldt also competed at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational and had a provisional mark in the hammer throw with a winning throw of 157 feet, eight inches.

The teams will compete this weekend in three different meets with several athletes taking part in the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. The men will run at Loras and the women compete at UW-La Crosse on Saturday.
