SPASH

Football: The Panthers (5-0, 4-0) beat Merrill, 21-0, on Friday, Sept. 26. Ted Schlafke completed 9-of-18 passes for 201 yards and two touchdown passes. Anthony Shirek caught both of the touchdowns from Schlafke, scoring on pass plays of 90 and 36 yards.

Volleyball: SPASH (2-6 Valley) lost to Marshfield, 14-15, 12-15, 6-15, on Tuesday, Sept. 30. Megan Wesenberg had 15 assists, and Kayla Anason and Jaycie Fritsch had eight kills apiece.

The team beat Wisconsin Rapids, 15-7, 9-15, 15-11, 15-9, on Thursday, Sept. 2. Anason had 16 service points, including seven aces, and added 10 kills as well. Wessenberg led the team with 24 assists.

Girls tennis: SPASH beat Antigo, 7-0, on Tuesday, Sept. 30, to finish unbeaten (8-0) in the Valley conference. Lindsey Arnold (No. 1), Ali O'Neal (No. 2), Kaylei Sorensen (No. 3) and Meghan Placzek (No. 4) swept their singles matches, as did the doubles teams of Maria Davis and Rachel Benn (No. 1), Kim Effinger and Tracy Rozak (No. 2) and Sarah Peterson and Cristina Clawson (No. 3). The Panthers dropped only two games in the seven matches.

The team won the Beaver Dam Invite, by scoring 38 of 42 points possible, on Saturday, Sept. 27. Each of the participants from SPASH reached the finals, with Arnold, O'Neal and Sorensen winning singles titles. Winning doubles titles were the teams of Davis and Benn, and Peterson and Clawson.

The squad swept Wausau West, 7-0, on Thursday, Sept. 25. Arnold, O'Neal, Sorensen and Placzek all won their singles matches, while the teams of Davis and Benn, Effinger and Rozak, and Petersen and Clawson were also victorious.

Boys soccer: The Panthers lost to Wausau West, 4-3, on Tuesday, Sept. 30. Adam Koziczkowski, Derek Marie and Ling Vang scored goals for the team, as SPASH led 3-1 at halftime, but failed to hold onto the lead.

The team finished 1-1 at the Panther Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 28. They dropped their opener, 4-1, to Eau Claire Memorial, but came back to knock off Eau Claire North in the second game, 2-1. Koziczkowski scored both goals in the victory, with Vang supplying an assist.

SPASH lost to Rhinelander, 2-1, on Thursday, Sept. 25. Phia Yang scored for the team, with Marie providing the assist.

Girls swimming: The Panthers defeated Marshfield, 131.5-38.5 on Thursday, Sept. 25, sweeping all 11 events.

Double winners were Lauren Golla in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke and Danielle Alinea in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Also taking first were Brittany Forrest in the 50 freestyle, Stacy Smrz in the 100 butterfly, Sharisa Hillstead in the 100 freestyle and Melissa Degen in the 500 freestyle.

The winning relay teams were the 200 medley with Golla, Hillstead, Alinea and Forrest; the 200 freestyle with Alinea, Maddy Etrheim, Forrest and Smrz; and the 400 freestyle with Smrz, Golla, Etrheim and Hillstead.

Taking second places were Kelly Williamson in the 200 and 500 freestyles, Smrz in the 200 individual medley, Etrheim in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly, Hillstead in the 100 breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay team of Kelly MacDonald, Emily Celichowski, Leah Watson and Williamson.

Third places went to Degen in the 200 freestyle; Watson in the 200 individual medley (tie) and 500 freestyle; Celichowski in the 50 freestyle; Lynsey Martin in the 100 butterfly; Forrest in the 100 freestyle; Sara Eckerman in the 100 backstroke; Keely Bohm in the 100 breaststroke; the 200 medley relay team of Alicia Serafin, Jenni Todd, Emily Kermath and Missy Vacha; and the 200 freestyle relay team of Bohm, Martin, Degen and Vacha.

SPASH defeated Wisconsin Rapids, on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 101-69.

Double winners again were Golla in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke and Alinea in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke.

Etrheim won the 100 butterfly and the winning relay teams were the 200 medley with Golla, Alinea, Hillstead and Forrest; and the 200 freestyle with Forrest, Smrz, Etrheim and Alinea.

Second places went to Williamson in the 200 freestyle; Etrheim in the 200 individual medley; Forrest in the 50 freestyle; Smrz in the 100 butterfly; Degen in the 500 freestyle; Hillstead in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke; and the 400 freestyle relay team of Golla, Smrz, Etrheim and Hillstead.

Capturing third places were Williamson in the 500 freestyle; Eckerman in the 100 backstroke; Bohm in the 100 breaststroke; the 200 medley relay team of Eckerman, Bohm, Taryn Willkom and Celichowski; and the 200 freestyle relay team of Williamson, Amy Bachinski, MacDonald and Watson.

Cross country: The boys scored 44 points, while the girls tallied 34 points, as each won their respective division at the Manitowoc Invite, on Saturday, Sept. 27. Luke Langhorst finished second overall to lead the boys, and was followed by Tommy Winkelman (fourth), Mickey Katz (fifth), Paul Zdroik (sixth) and Harrison Smith (28th). Kara Tauchman won the girls race, followed closely by Emma Tauchman (third), Kelly Shaw (seventh), Jenny Groshek (10th) and Zoe Browne (13th).

The girls reserves finished second at the Merrill Invitational, with 72 points, on Thursday, Sept. 25. Elizabeth Hunter finished 10th to lead the team, followed by Janet Yockers (14th), Sarah Dehlinger (15th), Bethany Hoerter (16th) and Melissa Carlson (17th).

Pacelli

Football: The Cardinals (2-3, 2-3) lost to Bonduel, 30-0, on Friday, Sept. 26. Scott Herzog had 46 yards rushing on 12 carries, while Jake Owens had four catches for 41 yards.

Volleyball: Pacelli (6-3 CWC large) lost to Amherst, 7-15, 15-13, 13-15, on Tuesday, Sept. 30. Kari Heagle had 15 kills to lead the team.

The team defeated Menominee Indian, 15-2, 15-8, 15-13, and Rosholt, 15-10, 15-8, 15-7, in a CWC Triangular, on Thursday, Sept. 25. Kaitlyn Lane had 21 kills, while Heagle added 16 and Krissy Lila contributed 10.

Girls tennis: The Cardinals lost to Fox Valley Lutheran, 6-1, on Thursday, Sept. 25. Aschley Jurgella won at No. 1 singles, posting an impressive 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Soccer: Pacelli (0-8-1) lost to Northland Lutheran, 4-0, on Monday, Sept. 29.

The team dropped a 3-1 decision to Marshfield Columbus on Thursday, Sept. 25. Owen Piotrowski scored for the Cards, while Cory Nagel stopped 12 shots in goal.

Cross country: The girls won the overall title at the Pacelli Invite, while the boys finished fourth, on Saturday, Sept. 27. Katie Fix led the way for the girls, as she finished fourth, with Chrissy Nowak (fifth), Nikki Theisen (sixth) and Jane Kreul (seventh) finishing right behind. In the boys race, Jamie Klein finished second overall for the Cards, with Ryan Koch (19th), Oliver Klein (24th), Paul Monday (25th) and Ian Allen (26th) rounding out the scoring.

Amherst

Football: The Falcons (2-3, 2-3) lost to Rosholt, 7-6, on Friday, Sept. 26. Jared Dombrowski scored on a 3-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, but he was stopped on the ensuing two-point conversion as Amherst's attempt failed, which proved to be the difference in the game. Dombrowski had 90 yards rushing on 21 carries to lead the offense.

Volleyball: Amherst (4-5 CWC large) beat Pacelli, 15-7, 13-15, 15-13, on Tuesday, Sept. 30. Caitlin Allen had 13 service points, six kills and six assists to pace the squad. Colby Mehne had 11 assists, eight points and four kills, and Margo Borgen added six kills.

The team lost to Bonduel, 11-15, 6-15, 4-15, but rebounded to beat Manawa, 15-6, 15-5, 15-5, in a CWC triangular on Thursday, Sept. 25. Mehne had 14 service points, 15 assists and seven kills.

Cross country: The boys won the title at the Pacelli Invite, while the girls finished in second place, on Saturday, Sept. 27. For the boys, Spencer Selbo finished fourth overall, while Devin Arch (fifth), Andy Werner (sixth), Jeremiah Osborn (seventh) and Elliot Abbott (13th) followed right behind. Aryn Higgins won the girls race, with Brittany Dick finishing third. Lindsy Groshek (11th), Gwen Casey (15th) and Christy Cloninger (16th) rounded out the team's scoring.

Rosholt

Football: The Hornets (1-4, 1-3) beat Amherst, 7-6, on Friday, Sept. 26. Travis Richter hauled in a 80-yard touchdown pass from Jeremy Richter, as the team won their Homecoming game. The Rosholt defense picked off three passes, and held on to win after Amherst's 2-point conversion attempt in the third quarter failed.

Volleyball: Rosholt (4-5 CWC large) lost to Weyauwega-Fremont, 8-15, 8-15, 15-5, on Tuesday, Sept. 30. Krista Basinski had 10 assists, while Kim Yenter had seven service points to lead the team.

The Hornets beat Menominee Indian, 15-10, 16-14, 15-6, but lost to Pacelli, 10-15, 8-15, 7-15, in a CWC triangular on Thursday, Sept. 25. Mallory Choudoir had 26 service points, while Sue Trzebiatowski had 17 kills and 14 points.

Cross country: The boys and girls each finished third at the Pacelli Invite, on Saturday, Sept. 27. Andy Osowski (eighth) was the top finisher for the boys, with Luke Fosz (ninth), Tyler Staszak (12th), Cody Helgeson (14th) and Kris Domaszek (17th) also competing. For the girls, Janice Yenter finished second overall, with Tracy Wierzba (ninth), Jessica Kulas (10th), Jamie Scott (12th) and Kati Kluck (17th) rounding out the scoring.

Almond-Bancroft

Football: The Eagles (1-4, 0-3) lost to Shiocton, 33-6, on Friday, Sept. 26. Randy Berry threw a 14-yards touchdown pass to Austin Lamb for the team's only score. Jason Sanchez rushed for 79 yards on 18 carries.

Volleyball: Almond (1-6) lost to Gresham, 15-12, 13-15, 10-15, and Bowler, 15-17, 8-15, 15-8, in a triangular on Thursday, Sept. 25. Dani Turzinski had 16 assists, while Shelly Pagel and Jessica Warzynski each had 13 kills.

Cross country: The boys and girls each finished in third place at the Nekoosa-Port Edwards Invite. Ryan Stephens finished second to lead the boys, who tallied 79 points, while Nathan Wahn (10th), Aaron Johnson (18th), Keith Nelson (23rd) and Chris Hintz (24th) also competed. Allie Jagielo finished third to lead the girls, who finished with 54 points, while Felicia Dake (ninth), Rachel Wydra (10th), Jamie Dorhorst (13th) and Nichole Knights (19th) rounded out the scoring.
