SPASH
Football:
The Panthers' (9-2) season ended with a loss to D.C. Everest, 36-13, in a WIAA Division 1 Level 2 Playoff contest,
on Saturday Nov. 1. Ted Schlafke threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Haluska as SPASH took a 6-0 lead in the
first quarter, but Everest responded by scoring 30 unanswered points before the half to take a 30-6 halftime lead.
Schlafke completed 14-of-24 passes for 238 yards and one touchdown, and was also the team's leading rusher with
49 yards on 11 carries. Haluska caught four passes for 117 yards, and Matt Armatoski added 41 yards rushing on
14 carries, including a 1-yard touchdown run.
Schlafke was named the 2003 Wisconsin Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year, and was named First Team
All-Conference. Also named to the First Team on offense were junior tight end Troy Reilly, senior guard Nick Haga
and junior kicker Jered Fohrman. On the defensive side, senior defensive tackle Jon Jacowski was one of only two
unanimous First Team selections, and he was joined on the First Team by defensive back Garrett Wroblewski. Earning
Second Team honors were senior running back Matt Armatoski, senior offensive tackle Matt Wanta, senior linebacker
Dan Harke and junior linebacker Andrew Evanoff. Receiving Honorable Mention were junior running back Wes Sutton,
senior wide receiver Jimmy Haluska, senior guard Chris DeSteffen, and senior defensive linemen Tony Gaboda and
Andy Levandowski.
Swimming: The Panthers finished
in second place at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Swim Meet, on Thursday, Oct. 30. Wausau East won the meet with
510 points, just ahead of SPASH's 437 points. Danielle Alinea was the team's top finisher, as she won the 100 breaststroke.

Second place:
Alinea (200 individual medley), Lauren Golla (100 backstroke), Sharisa Hillstead (100 breaststroke), 200 medley
relay (Golla, Hillstead, Alinea and Brittany Forrest).
Third place:
Golla (200 freestyle), Maddy Etrheim (200 individual medley), 200 free relay (Forrest, Alinea, Etrheim, Amy Bachinski).
Fourth place:
Melissa Degen (500 freestyle), 400 freestyle relay (Etrheim, Golla, Stacy Smrz, Hillstead).
Fifth place:
Bachinski (50 freestyle), Keely Bohm (100 breaststroke), 200 medley relay B (Sara Eckerman, Bohm, Smrz, Emily Celichowski).
Sixth place:
Forrest (50 freestyle), Smrz (100 butterfly), Hillstead (100 freestyle), Kelly Williamson (500 freestyle).
Seventh place:
Williamson (200 freestyle), Etrheim (100 butterfly).
Eighth place:
Degen (200 freestyle), Forrest (100 freestyle), 200 freestyle relay B (Williamson, Kelly MacDonald, Celichowski
and Leah Watson).
Volleyball: Seniors Kayla Anason
and Megan Wesenberg were named Honorable Mention on the Wisconsin Valley All-Conference team.
Pacelli
Football:
The Cardinals' (7-4) season ended with a loss to Eau Claire Regis, 24-0, in a WIAA Division 7 Level 2 Playoff contest,
on Saturday Nov. 1. Pacelli trailed 10-0 at halftime, but was unable to make a serious run in the second half against
the team that knocked them out of last year's Division 7 semifinals. Defensive back Jake Owens did not intercept
a pass, and finished his career with 33 interceptions, tied with Roy Gruel of Glenwood City for the state record.
Senior defensive back Jake Owens was named the Central Wisconsin Conference large Co-Defensive Player of the Year,
as he received First Team honors at defensive back for the second year in a row, and First Team honors at wide
receiver for the third straight year. Senior Alex Riordan was named First Team All-Conference at kicker and defensive
tackle, and was also named to the Second Team at offensive guard. Senior offensive tackle Nate Wachowiak and sophomore
running back Scott Herzog were also named First Team All-Conference on offense, and junior linebacker Ben Klosinski
was named to the First Team on defense. Klosinski also received Honorable Mention at center, as did Wachowiak at
defensive end and senior Eric Kawski at defensive back. The Cardinals finished tied for third in the conference
with a 5-3 record.
Cross Country: Jamie Klein finished
15th in the Boys Division 3 race at the WIAA State Meet, on Saturday Nov. 1. Klein, who was an individual qualifier
for state, finished the race in 16:58.6.
Volleyball: Senior Kaitlyn Lane
was named to the CWC large All-Conference First Team for the second consecutive year. Earning Second Team honors
was senior Sara Klasinski, while senior Kari Heagle received Honorable Mention. The Cards finished tied for third
in the conference with a 10-6 record.
Amherst
Cross Country:
The girls finished in ninth place at the WIAA Girls Division 3 State Meet. Brittany Dick (16:03.6) finished 12th
overall to lead the team, followed by Aryn Higgins (21st, 16:31.8), Laura Kropidlowski (43rd, 17:13.4), Christy
Cloninger (64th, 17:44.6), Lindsey Groshek (66th, 17:51.7), Gwen Casey (74th, 18:04.7) and Kristine Fox (84th,
18:37.5).
Football: Senior defensive tackle
Jed Shulfer and junior defensive end Chris Page were named to the CWC large All-Conference Second Team. Earning
Honorable Mention was Jared Dombrowski at both running back and defensive back, and running back Joe Blanke. The
Falcons finished tied for sixth in the conference with a 2-6 record.
Volleyball: Senior Margo Borgen
was named to the CWC large All-Conference First Team. Caitlin Allen and Colby Mehne both earned Honorable Mention.
The Falcons finished seventh in the conference with a 5-11 record.
Rosholt
Cross Country:
Janice Yenter placed fifth in the Girls Division 3 race at the WIAA State Meet, on Saturday Nov. 1. Yenter, who
was an individual qualifier for the meet, finished with a time of 15:26.8.
Football: Senior offensive tackle
Ryan Fraasch, junior linebacker Adam Printz and junior defensive back Travis Richter were named to the CWC large
All-Conference Second Team. Adam Kurzewski received Honorable Mention at defensive end, as did Richter at running
back and Fraasch at defensive tackle. Rosholt finished tied for sixth in the conference with a 2-6 record.
Volleyball: Senior Mallory Choudoir
was named to the CWC large All-Conference Second Team, while Amber Kuklinski received Honorable Mention. The Hornets
finished tied for third in the conference with a 10-6 record
Almond-Bancroft
Football: Senior
Jason Sanchez was named Second Team CWC small All-Conference at running back on offense and at linebacker on defense,
while senior defensive lineman Corey Newby, junior linebacker Randy Berry and sophomore defensive back Austin Lamb
also earned Second Team honors. Receiving Honorable Mention was offensive lineman Fred Clark. Almond finished sixth
in the CWC small this season with a 2-5 record.
Volleyball: Senior Shelly Pagel
earned Second Team CWC small All-Conference honors, while senior Dani Turzinski received Honorable Mention. The
Eagles finished sixth in the conference with a 5-11 record.
