Plover Black Sox:
The Black Sox (30-12, 10-5) beat Merrill, 12-1, on Tuesday, July 22. Adam Evanoff had three hits, while Jake Owens and Garrett Wroblewski each had two hits to pace the offense. Jason Higgins picked up the win on the mound, allowing six hits and no walks, while striking out four in a complete-game. Owens' two hits gave him 66 for the summer, which is a new Black Sox single-season record.

The Sox beat Wisconsin Rapids, 20-8, on Monday, July 21. Owens had three hits, including a home run and a double, while Wroblewski added a pair of doubles. Mitch Miskoski had a double among his two hits, while Joel Hojnacki also added two hits. Nate Tuen pitched a complete-game to pick up the win.

Plover won the 2003 Central Wisconsin Classic at Memorial Field, going 3-1 over a four-day tournament that began on Thursday, July 17. The Sox won the Championship game, 12-0, over Manitowoc on Sunday, July 20, as Tournament MVP Jeff Sadlemyer turned in his second strong pitching performance in three days, allowing four hits and striking out five in a complete-game victory. Owens and Adam Evanoff each had two hits and three RBIs, while Jason Pezewski added a two-run home run. Miskoski, Wroblewski and Ahern Cashin had two hits apiece. The Sox beat defending-state champion Appleton, 7-2, earlier in the day to advance to the finals. Derrick Lepak tossed a complete-game three-hitter to lead the way, while Evanoff had three hits at the plate to spark the offense.

The team split a pair on Saturday, July 19, losing to Manitowoc, 6-3, in the opener, and then rebounded by beating Portage, 7-4. Against Manitowoc, Owens hit a two-run home run, while Jeremy Richter added a solo shot, but that was the only offense the team could muster. Jason Higgins picked up the loss on the mound. Plover responded against Portage, as Evanoff had three hits and two RBIs, while Owens, Lepak, Ted Schlafke and Phil Koback each had two hits. Richter picked up the win on the mound, while Pezewski closed out the game by striking out three in the final inning and a third.

The team beat Hopkins Minn., 5-4 in eight innings, on Friday, July 18. Sadlemyer pitched a complete-game, allowing five hits while striking out three. Owens had four hits to pace the offense, including the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth that scored Miskoski. Hojnacki had three hits and Derrick Lepak added a pair.

The Black Sox opened up the tournament with a win over Appleton, 6-5 in eight innings, on Thursday, July 17. Hojnacki's double in the bottom of the eighth scored Miskoski to win the game. Hojnacki was the star of the night with three hits, including a three-run double, while Lepak and Schlafke added two hits apiece. Owens picked up the win in relief, striking out two in the last inning and two-thirds.

In addition to Sadlemyer receiving Tournament MVP, Jake Owens, Derrick Lepak and Adam Evanoff were named to the All-Tournament team.

Plover was swept by Wausau, losing 8-5 and 6-3, on Wednesday, July 16. In the opener, Evanoff hit two home runs and had four RBIs, while Schlafke added a solo shot of his own, but it wasn't enough as Tuen gave up six runs in three and one third innings to pick up the loss. In the second game, Schlafke had two hits and Owens added a double, but Wausau scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Pezewski took the loss on the mound.

Stevens Point Sixers: The Sixers lost to Marshfield, 11-10 in ten innings, on Tuesday, July 22. Trailing, 9-6 in the top of the ninth, the Sixers rallied to tie the game, thanks in large part to a two-out, two-run triple by Nick Pratt that evened the score, 9-9. Point took a 10-9 lead in the top of the tenth, but couldn't hold on, as a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the tenth by Marshfield's Corey Geldernick won the game. Jeff Herzog, Kyle Lepak and Donny Carter had two hits a piece to lead the offense.

The Sixers won the Don Friday Classic for the first time since 1995, going 3-0 over the three-day tournament, which began on Friday, July 18. Point won the championship game in convincing fashion, 15-5 in five innings, over Green Bay Southwest on Sunday, July 20. Lepak pitched a complete-game, allowing seven hits while striking out three. Randy Printz powered the offense with a solo home run.
Lepak hit for the cycle on Saturday, July 19, as Point came from behind to beat Viroqua, 7-6. With the game tied at six in the bottom of the sixth, Lepak's solo home run capped the comeback, and proved to be the eventual game-winner.

Matt Simonson turned in an outstanding performance on the mound, as the Sixers beat Genoa City, 3-0, on Friday, July 18. Simonson pitched a complete-game, five-hitter, striking out 12. Printz supplied the offense Simonson needed with a two-run single, while Nate Domaszek had a pair of hits.

The Sixers beat Rhinelander, 6-3, on Wednesday, July 16. Lepak gave up four hits in a complete-game win, striking out three. Printz had three hits, including a three-run home run in the first inning, while Brad Heeg had a double among his two hits. Ryan Blomlie also had two hits for Stevens Point.
