SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT AND HALL INDUCTION:
The Stevens Point Softball Association will host the Wisconsin American Softball Association (ASA) Men's Slow Pitch
Class D State Tournament at the Zenoff Park complex this weekend, along with the Hall of Fame Class of 2003 induction.
The tournament starts Friday evening with nine games as 27 teams will be competing
for the state title.
Stevens Point entries Kim's Barrel Inn and Doug's/KBI are both scheduled for 7 p.m. contests.
The tourney continues all day Saturday, starting at 9 a.m., and will conclude on Sunday with the first championship
game at 3:30 p.m. The top five finishers will qualify for the ASA East National Championship Sept. 18-21 in Montgomery,
Ala. Amery Discount Liquor from Amery is the defending state champion in Class D.
The Hall of Fame ceremony will be at 4 p.m. Saturday with inductees that include
Mike Disher of Stevens Point, Harry Kraft, Rod Peterson, Tom Raimer, Bud Smith and Larry Stuhr.
There is no charge for admission to the tournament. Food, drinks and souvenirs will be available at the concession
stand. Carry-ins are prohibited. Spectators should park in the Zenoff Parking lot and avoid the Moose Lodge lot
unless they are lodge members.

SIGNUP BEGINS FOR FALL BOATING COURSE: The Central Wisconsin Sail and Power Squadron will hold a boating safety and fundamentals
course, "Boat Smart," in the center court area at Cedar Creek Factory Stores in Rothschild from 6:30
to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, Thursday, Sept. 4, Tuesday, Sept. 9, concluding Thursday, Sept. 11, with an examination.
The course will include a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources boating certification.
Successful completion of the course could lead to lower boat insurance and eligibility for U.S. Power Squadron
membership. The latter includes the opportunity to take more advanced courses such as Seamanship, Piloting, Weather,
Sail, Marine Electronics and more.
Interested persons ages 16 and older are invited to take the course. Children ages
11-15 can take the course if accompanied by an adult who is also taking the course. The cost will be $35 per person
or $55 per couple sharing one manual.

LOCAL SPECIAL OLYMPICS VOLUNTEERS EARN RECOGNITION:
North Central Special Olympics has recognized winners in six categories,
including athlete, volunteer, coach and family of the year.
Jeremy Ainsworth won volunteer of the year for his work with the Stevens Point
Area YMCA Special Olympics team. He has been volunteering for Special Olympics at the YMCA for the past three years
in bowling, swimming and basketball.
SPASH Key Club was honored for distinguished service to an agency for all the volunteer
help with the YMCA Special Olympics program.

KULINSKI RECORDS HOLE-IN-ONE: Patrick Kulinski, 1801 Clar-Re Drive, Plover, recorded a hole-in-one on the 120-yard fourth
hole at SentryWorld on Thursday, July 17, using a No. 6 iron. It was his first hole-in-one.
Witnessing the event were Robert Kluck, Jim Falk and Leon Ostrowski.
