UW-SP will host annual Sentry Classic
Both defending girls championship teams return to highlight a 16-team field at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens
Point's (UW-SP) Quandt Fieldhouse for one of the state's premier holiday basketball events in the 32nd annual Sentry
Classic. This year's tournament is set for Sunday through Tuesday, Dec. 28-30.
Slinger is the defending girls National Division champion, while Wisconsin Rapids Assumption returns after winning
the girls American Division crown. Seven of the eight girls teams were in last year's field, while four of the
eight boys teams from last year are back. Two games will be played on Sunday with seven games slated for both Monday
and Tuesday.
The tournament is co-sponsored by the Community Parks Improvement Committee (CPIC), Sentry Insurance and UW-SP.
Since 1970, the CPIC has raised over $300,000 for community projects in the Stevens Point area.
The only newcomer to the girls' field is a quality addition in undefeated Ashwaubenon, which is 6-0 and received
votes in the latest state rankings by Wishoops.net. The Jaguars take on Stevens Point, which is currently 4-2,
in Monday's 7:15 p.m. game. Slinger and Chippewa Falls both have 4-1 records and meet Monday at 12:15 p.m. to round
out the National Division field.

3-3, in the opening game of the tournament on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Almond-Bancroft is 4-2 and Elcho is 3-1 to complete
the American Division bracket.
Seymour headlines the boys' field, bringing a 6-0 record and No. 2 ranking in the latest Division 2 state rankings
into the tournament. The defending state runner-up Thunder is in the field for the first time since 1999 and takes
on Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln at 2 p.m. on Monday. The Red Raiders are currently 4-2 after a four-point loss to Wisconsin
Valley Conference leader Wausau East on Friday.
Stevens Point is 1-5 and opens tournament play in the boys National Division on Monday at 9 p.m. against Green
Bay Southwest, which is off to a 4-2 start and makes its first Sentry Classic appearance since 1986.
Mondovi has dominated its first four opponents this season and received votes in the latest Division 3 state rankings
to headline the boys American Division bracket in its first Sentry Classic appearance. The Buffaloes play their
first game on Monday at 3:45 p.m. and take on Burlington Catholic Central, which is 2-4 and making its first trip
to the classic since 1984 when it was Burlington St. Mary's.
Catholic Central also plays Stevens Point Pacelli on the opening day of the tournament on Sunday at 8:15 p.m. Pacelli
