JAKUSZ NAMED UW-SP HEAD WOMEN'S TENNIS COACH: Karlyn Jakusz had never given much thought to being a collegiate head coach, but when asked
by the UW-SP to take over the school's women's tennis program, she couldn't pass up the chance.
The Stevens Point native has been tabbed to replace Nancy Page, who retired after
18 years as the Pointers' head coach.
"I guess I never thought about it," said Jakusz, who was first asked
by Page this past summer to help as the team's assistant coach. "I think we can get this program where I want
it to be and it's going to be a challenge, but I'd like to try it."
Jakusz takes over a program that finished sixth of seven teams this past fall and
has not finished higher than fifth since 1996. The Pointers have never won a conference title and finished second
in 1992.
Jakusz will be a part-time athletics staff member, but is employed on campus as
the telemanagement administrator in the UW-SP Telephone Support Office. She is a SPASH and UW-Madison graduate.
Jakusz has helped with local high school teams and spent four years as the United
States Tennis Association coordinator for the North Central League.
Page joined the UW-SP staff in the fall of 1973 and coached the Pointers' women's
field hockey team to three NCAA Division III tournament appearances in 13 seasons. She also coached softball for
10 seasons during her 31-year tenure at UW-SP.

KRAUSE NAMED FIRST-TEAM QUARTERBACK BY TWO
ALL-AMERICAN SQUADS: An outstanding season on the field has yielded some
prestigious postseason awards for UW-SP senior quarterback Scott Krause, who has been named a first-team All-American
by Football Gazette and the College Sports Information Directors.
Krause, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, is
the 13th player in UW-SP history to earn a first-team All-American honor.
The Waunakee native is the first UW-SP first-team All-American since defensive
back Andy Palzkill was tabbed by Football Gazette in 1999. Krause is the third UW-SP quarterback to earn first-team
honors, joining Reed Giordana in 1977 and Kirk Baumgartner in 1987-89. He is only the seventh UW-SP player to be
named to the first team on two All-American teams in the same year.
Only one quarterback is selected to the first team by each All-American squad.
Tyler Matthews of Linfield (Ore.) and Dan Cole of Rensselaer Poly Institute (N.Y.) were the second- and third-team
quarterbacks on both teams.
Krause led the NCAA Division III in the regular season with 37 touchdown passes,
marking the fourth-highest season total in WIAC history. He threw for 2,963 yards with just nine interceptions
and completed a school-record 66.1 percent of his passes. Krause ranked second nationally in passing efficiency
and fifth in total offense, while rushing for 322 yards and four touchdowns. He completed 74.0 percent of his passes
and threw for 14 touchdowns over the final four games of the season.
