AMERY TEAM WINS CLASS D TOURNEY: The Unknown of Amery captured the Wisconsin Amateur Softball Association 2003 Class D State Tournament at Zenoff Park in Stevens Point on Sunday, July 27.

The Unknown went 6-0 in the tournament, defeating Point Beer of Wausau, 15,-6, in the championship game. Point Beer finished at 5-2 after coming back through the loser's bracket to defeat Amery Discount Liquor of Amery, 7-5, in the game prior to the championship.

Point Beer was knocked into the loser's bracket by Amery Discount Liquor, 13-9, and then beat Mickey's of Tony, 7,5.

The two area entries in the tournament had tough sledding.

Doug's Sports Pub/KBI went 1-2, losing 12-5to the 400 Club of Altoona, beating Hoot's Hilltop of Eau Claire, 7-6, and then losing 14-1 to Green Touch/Easton of Woodville.

Kim's Barrel Inn lost its first game, 7-6, to Valley Cartage of Hudson, then dropped a 12-8 decision to Sportsman's Lounge of Arcadia.

Selected to the All-Tournament Team were Brian Kofal of The Unknown, first base; Mike Mathies of Point Beer, second base; Jeramie Voeltz of The Unknown, third base; Tom Knutson, Mickey's, shortstop; Kevin Luhman of D.J.'s Vogue Bar of La Crosse, pitcher; Joe Rosauer of Mike's Place of New Richman, catcher; Troy Kressel of Point Beer, extra player; and Reggie Nichols of Point Beer, Ryan Blanchard of The Unknown, Rick Johnson of Johnson Softball of Beloit and Brett Ludescher of Mickey's, outfield.

Voeltz was selected as the Tournament Most Valuable Player.
