SPASH

Boys basketball: The Panthers lost, 54-33, to Fond du Lac in the WIAA Division 1 regional final at SPASH on Monday, March 4. The game had been postponed Saturday because of hazardous road conditions.

Kyle Corrigan, Dan Osili and Ted Schlafke led the Panthers with seven points apiece. SPASH ends the season with a 12-10 record.

Gymnastics: Raenee Bugarske led the Panthers in the individual competition at the WIAA State Gymnastics Meet at Wisconsin Rapids on Friday, March 1, earning two medals for fourth place in the vault with a score of 9.200 and sixth place in the floor exercise with a score of 9.283.

Bugarske also took 11th place in the all-around competition and 21st in the uneven bars.

Other Panther finishers included Anne Simonis, 12th in bars; Kaity Munsey, 14th in bars; Kim Klosno, 22nd in floor exercise; and Jenna Weinbauer, 23rd in balance beam.

In the team competition on Saturday, the Panthers finished seventh, with a score of 139.900.

Team leaders in the individual events were Munsey on the beam with a score of 8.083; Bugarske in floor exercise with a score of 9.383, Klosno on the vault with a score of 8.333 and Stefanie Niederman on the bars with a score of 8.233.

Hockey: The Panthers won the WIAA State Hockey Tournament at Madison. See story on page 16.

Girls basketball: The Hornets lost to Laconia High School of Rosendale, 37-34, on Friday, March 1, in sectional play. See story on page 17.

ALMOND-BANCROFT

Boys basketball: The Eagles defeated Port Edwards 65-61, rallying from a 13-point deficit in the third quarter in the WIAA Division 4 regionals at Almond on Thursday, Feb. 28. Joel Erickson led Almond-Bancroft in scoring with 16, Adam Berry had 13 and Matt Beigel had 11.

On Saturday, the Eagles lost to Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, 57-53, in the regional finals. The Eagles pulled to within two points with 29 seconds left, 55-53, but could get no closer.

Randy Berry led the Eagles with 21 points.
