SPASH
Boys basketball: The Panthers (8-5 overall,
6-3 Wisconsin Valley Conference) defeated Marshfield, 61-50, on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Ryan Taggatz scored 28 in the
victory.
The team lost, 45-42, to Wausau East on Friday, Jan. 18. Taggatz led all scorers
with 16 points.
Girls basketball: The team (5-9 overall,
4-6 WVC) lost, 51-49, to Marshfield on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Kara Kujawa scored 15 points.
The SPASH girls trounced Wausau East, 58-44, on Friday, Jan. 18. Kujawa led the
team with 15 points.
Gymnastics: The team won the Mosinee
Invitational by scoring 140.15 points on Saturday, Jan. 19. Kaity Munsey won the all-around (35.2 points) while
Raenee Bugarske took second (34.775). Munsey also won the floor exercise (9.2), Bugarske won the vault (8.8) and
Nikki Cruz took first on the beam (9.175).
The Panthers defeated Rhinelander, 140.775-131.225, on Thursday, Jan. 18. Munsey
took first in the all-around (35.425), Kim Klosno took second (35.15) and Bugarske took third (34.775). Munsey
took first in the floor (9.25) and the vault (9.1). Cruz finished second on the beam (9.2) and Bugarske finished
second in the floor exercise (9.2).
Hockey: The
Panthers (13-1-1 overall, 9-1-1 WVC) defeated Wisconsin Rapids, 5-3, on Tuesday, Jan. 22, despite playing without
leading scorer Joe Pavelski, who missed the game because of a game disqualification on Saturday, Jan. 19. Mark
Lutz, Brian Soik, Ben Roth, Jimmy Haluska and Nate Alm scored in the game.
The team beat Antigo, 4-1, on Saturday, Jan. 19. Lutz, Haluska, Ted Baier and Roth
scored for the team.
The team beat Marshfield, 5-2, on Thursday, Jan. 17. Pavelski had a goal and two
assists. Haluska, Nate Alm, Brian Soik and Michael Soik also scored goals in the win.
Wrestling: The
team (10-2 overall, ranked seventh in the state in Division 1) won the Sheboygan North Invitational on Saturday,
Jan. 19. The Panthers scored 254 points, well ahead of second-place Seymour (212). Jake Calhoun (119), Jon Slezak
(135), Dan Pawelski (152) and Josh Przekurat (160) all won titles for the team.
Second-place finishers for the team were Adam Kurzynski (130), Kevin Duda (145),
Grey Pope (171) and Adam Sandstrom (189). Steve Bachinski took third at 125, Justin Cieslewiscz fifth at 275, Brandon
Raikowski sixth at 112 and Nate Kurszewski seventh at 140.
"The kids have been working hard and it shows in the results. We have a good
number of seniors on the team this year and their experience is showing the way for the younger guys. Right now
we are trying to put the finishing touches on our wrestling and get ready for the conference tournament and the
state tournament series," said SPASH coach Gee Pope.

Swimming: The team crushed Wausau East/West,
107-63, on Thursday, Jan. 17. Jon Ronzani took first in the 200-meter freestyle (1:56.91) and the 100-meter butterfly
(:57.79) and Andy Menzel took firsts in the 200-meter individual medley (2:09.12) and 100-meter backstroke (:58.5).
Jacob Nantell took first in the 50-meter freestyle, Josh Siebert in the 100-meter freestyle (:54.18) and Evan Prince
in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:09.51). The team of Menzel, Nantell, Ronzani and Siebert won the 400-meter freestyle
relay (2:28.78). Menzel, Geoff Thill, Ronzani and Siebert took first in the 200-medley relay (1:47.99) and Nilo
Stefani, Nantell, Prince and Thill took first in the 200-meter freestyle relay (1:36.32).
PACELLI
Boys basketball: The Cardinals (4-10 overall, 4-6 Central Wisconsin Conference
large division) lost, 63-52, to Shiocton, on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Ahren Cashin led the team with 17 points. Jake Owens
added 15.
The team defeated Menominee Indian, 69-50, on Thursday, Jan. 17. Derrick Lepak
led the team with 17 points.
Girls basketball: The Pacelli girls
(5-10 overall, 5-6 CWC large) lost, 36-34, to Shiocton Tuesday, Jan. 22. Stephanie Fischer led the team with 12
points.
The team defeated Menominee Indian, 62-48, on Friday, Jan. 18. Stephanie Johnson
and Emily Radomski both scored 14 points in the win.
ROSHOLT
Boys basketball: The Hornets (9-3 overall, 8-2 CWC small) crushed Tri-County, 74-44,
on Tuesday, Jan. 22. James Kosmalski led all scorers with 21 points. Brad Zdroik scored 13, Cole Firkus 12, Adam
Macht 11 and Dane Zdroik 10.
The team lost, 57-42, to Iola-Scandinavia on Friday, Jan. 18. Matt Zdroik had 14
points in the loss.
Girls basketball: The team (14-1 overall,
10-1 CWC small) lost its first game of the season, 47-35, to Plainfield, on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Laine Mueller scored
11 points for the Hornets.
The Rosholt girls defeated Iola-Scandinavia, 31-19, on Friday, Jan. 18. Tami Scott
led the team with 12 points while Aubrey Rice added nine.
Wrestling: The team went 3-2 at the
Central Wisconsin Conference Multi-Duals on Saturday, Jan. 18. The Hornets defeated Pacelli, Amherst and Manawa
and lost to Weyauwega-Fremont and Wisconsin Rapids.
AMHERST
Boys basketball: The
Falcons (9-5 overall, 8-2 CWC small) beat Wittenberg-Birnamwood, 77-73, in overtime on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Ryan Shulfer
had 18 points, while Tim Olson and Scott Nykl each added 15.
The team crushed Marion, 58-38, on Friday, Jan. 18. Travis Basset scored 19 points
while Shulfer added 16.
Girls basketball: Amherst (10-5 overall,
8-3 CWC small) lost, 67-43, to Wittenberg-Birnamwood on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Lyndsey Allen led the team in scoring
with 13. Molly Simkins chipped in with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
The Amherst girls stomped Marion, 62-42, on Thursday, Jan. 17. Jamie Krutza, Allen
and Simkins each had 14 points on the night.
ALMOND-BANCROFT
Boys basketball:
The Eagles (7-5 overall, 6-4 CWC small) stomped Wautoma, 61-46, on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Randy Berry had 12 points
and 10 boards while Adam Berry added 11 points and seven rebounds.
The team lost to Bowler, 63-46, on Friday, Jan. 18. Joel Erickson led the squad
with 15 points.
Girls basketball: The team beat Northland
Lutheran, 48-36, on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Courtney Newby led the team with 10 points.
The Almond-Bancroft girls routed Bowler, 53-34, on Friday, Jan. 18. Christyn Johnson
led the way with 11 points, while Heather Wittig added 10 and Dani Turzinski had nine.
