Boys basketball: The Panthers (7-4 overall, 5-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference) beat Merrill, 68-44, on Friday, Jan. 11. Dan Osili led the team with 17 points and Ryan Taggatz added 10.

Girls basketball: The Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) girls lost, 44-30, to Merrill on Friday, Jan. 11. Kara Kujawa and Katie Rasmussen each had seven points for the Panthers.

Boys swimming: The team scored 481 points to win the Manitowoc Invitational in dominating fashion on Saturday, Jan. 12. Second-place Manitowoc finished with 370 points.

Jacob Nantell took first in the 100-meter freestyle (50.89 seconds) and 50-meter freestyle (22.82), setting a meet record in the 50-meter freestyle in the process. Andy Menzel also set a new meet record (57.69) en route to winning the 100-meter backstroke.

The 200-meter freestyle relay team of Nantell, Ted Conachen, Josh Siebert and Evan Prince took first (1:35.38) as did the 400-meter freestyle relay team of Nantell, Menzel, Oliver Todryk and Jon Ronzani. The 400-meter team set a new meet record of 3.31.09.

The team defeated Wisconsin Rapids, 97-66, on Thursday, Jan. 10. See story page 16.

Gymnastics: The team defeated Antigo, 138.65-126.35, on Tuesday, Jan. 15. See story page 17.

The Panthers took first place at the Eau Claire North Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 12. See story page 17.

Wrestling: The team (9-2 in dual meets, 4-2 WVC) clobbered Antigo, 55-9, on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Steve Pachinski (125 pounds) and Justin Cieslewicz (heavyweight) both won by pin. Jon Slezak (135), Nate Kurszewski (140), Josh Przekurat (160) and Grey Pope (171) all won by decision. Brandon Raikowski won by technical fall.

The team defeated Wausau West, 36-25, on Thursday, Jan. 10. See story page 18.

PACELLI

Boys basketball: The Pacelli boys (3-9 overall, 3-5 in the Central Wisconsin Conference large division) lost, 60-55, to Amherst on Thursday, Jan. 10. Derrick Lepak and Ahren Cashin each scored 19 for the Cardinals.

Girls basketball: The Cardinals (4-8 overall, 4-5 CWC large) lost, 48-39, to Amherst on Friday, Jan. 11. Stephanie Johnson led the Cardinals with nine points.

AMHERST

Boys basketball: The Falcons (7-5 overall, 6-2 CWC large) lost, 58-53, to Iola-Scandinavia on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Travis Basset led the squad with 13 points while Scott Nykl and Ryan Schulfer each had 12.
The team beat Pacelli, 60-55, on Thursday, Jan. 10. Basset led the way with 16 points while Shulfer and Nykl each had 14.

Girls basketball: The Amherst girls (9-4 overall, 7-2 CWC large) defeated Iola-Scandinavia, 54-46, on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Jamie Krutza was the Falcons' leading scorer with 21 points. Molly Simkins added 16 points and 16 rebounds.

The Falcons beat Pacelli, 48-39, on Friday, Jan. 11. Lindsey Allen scored 17 points to lead the team, Simkins added 13 points and 11 rebounds and Krutza chipped in with 10 points.

Wrestling: The team took 12th at the Nekoosa Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 12.

ROSHOLT

Boys basketball: The Hornets (8-2 overall, 7-1 CWC small) defeated Port Edwards, 60-50, on Friday, Jan. 11. Dane Zdroik led the team with 20 points, Adam Mach scored 13 and Cole Firkus added 12.

Girls basketball: The Rosholt girls (13-0 overall, 9-0 CWC small) crushed Port Edwards, 52-23, on Friday, Jan.11. Aubrey Rice led the squad with 10 points, Emily Steines added nine and Natasha Check chipped in with eight.

ALMOND-BANCROFT

Boys basketball: The Eagles (6-4 overall, 6-3 CWC small) stomped Tri-County, 69-36, on Friday, Jan. 11. Joel Erickson had 15 points for Almond-Bancroft while Adam Berry scored 10.

Girls basketball: The Almond-Bancroft girls lost to Tri-County, 45-33, on Friday, Jan. 11. Heather Wittig scored six points for the Eagles.
