SPASH

Boys basketball: The Panthers (6-4 overall, 4-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference) squeaked one out, 47-46, against D.C. Everest on Friday, Jan. 4. Phil Lazarski's free throw with 20 seconds remaining in the game was the difference maker.

Girls basketball: The SPASH girls (4-7 overall, 3-4 in the WVC) lost, 63-57, to D.C. Everest on Friday, Jan. 4. Kara Kujawa led the Panthers with 16 points.

Hockey: The Panthers crushed Wausau East (10-1-1 overall, 6-1-1 in the WVC), 14-0, on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Joe Pavelski led the team with four goals and four assists while Ben Roth added a hat trick and two assists.

The team defeated Mosinee, 3-1, in the Community Parks Improvement Committee Holiday Hockey Classic (CPICI) championship game on Saturday, Jan. 5. See story page 16.

SPASH dominated Madison West, 9-0, in the CPIC Classic on Friday, Jan. 4. Pavelski had a hat trick and two assists.

The team beat D.C. Everest, 6-0, on Thursday, Jan. 4. Roth led the team with a pair of goals. Pavelski had one goal and two assists.

Boys swimming: The team finished first at the Ashwaubenon Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 5, finishing with 448 points. Second-place Rhinelander finished with 354. Jason Nantell took first in the 150 freestyle in 22.61 seconds. The 200-meter freestyle team of Nantell, Josh Siebert, Ted Conachen and Evan Prince took first in 1:33.34.

The team beat Rhinelander, 96-74, on Thursday, Jan. 3. Nantell took first in the 50-meter freestyle (23.04) and 100-meter freestyle (51.81). Other SPASH winners included Andy Menzel in the 200-meter freestyle (1.57.64), Jon Ronzani (57.58) in the 100-meter butterfly and Jeff Thill in the 500-meter freestyle (5.27.87). The 200-meter freestyle team of Nantell, Siebert, Conachen and Prince took first (1:36.78) as did the 400-meter freestyle relay team of Conachen, Nantell, Menzel and Ronzani (3.38.59).

Gymnastics: The Panthers took first at the La Crosse Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 5 and beat D.C. Everest, 139.1-125.5, on Thursday, Jan. 3. See story page 17.

PACELLI

Boys basketball: The Cardinals lost (3-8 overall, 3-4 in the Central Wisconsin Conference large division), 65-54, to Weyauwega-Fremont on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Jake Owens led the team with 21 points while Derrick Lepak added 19.

The team defeated Bonduel, 59-54, on Friday, Jan. 4. Owens scored 16 points; Brad Heeg added 14 and Ahren Cashin chipped in with 13.

Girls basketball: The Pacelli girls (4-7 overall, 4-4 in the CWC large) lost, 49-37, to Weyauwega-Fremont Tuesday, Jan. 8. Stephanie Johnson scored 17 points for the Cardinals with Emily Radomski adding six.

The Cardinals lost, 39-38, in double-overtime to Bonduel on Thursday, Jan. 3. Radomski accounted for nearly half of the team's scoring with 16 points.

Wrestling: The Cardinals lost, 72-0, to Tomahawk on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

AMHERST

Boys basketball: The Falcons (6-4 overall, 5-2 in the CWC small) beat Shiocton, 71-61, on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Ryan Shulfer had 28 points while Tim Olson and Travis Bassett each had 12.

Girls basketball: The Amherst girls (7-4 overall, 6-2 in the CWC small) defeated Shiocton, 50-34, on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Molly Simkins had another solid game with 21 points. Jamie Krutza added 14.

Amherst thumped Menominee Indian, 67-46, on Friday, Jan. 4. Krutza had 15 points and Lindsey Allen added 12.

The team fell to Wausau Newman, 55-30, on Thursday, Jan. 3. Krutza led the team with seven points.

ROSHOLT

Boys basketball: The Hornets (7-1 overall, 6-0 in the CWC small) defeated Almond-Bancroft, 40-26, on Friday, Jan. 4. Matt Zdroik and Cole Firkus each had 10 points.

Girls basketball: The Rosholt girls (12-0 overall, 8-0 in the CWC small) defeated Bowler, 45-24, on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Emily Steines scored 16 points in the win.

The Hornets blasted Almond-Bancroft, 48-20, on Friday, Jan. 4. See story page 16.

Wrestling: The Hornets (2-8-1 in dual meets) beat Auburndale, 38-27, on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Casey Giese (112 pounds), Nathan Budsburg (140) and Lee Schultz (heavyweight) all won by pin.

The team took fourth at the Charger Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 5, with 103 points. Lakeland won the event with 133.

ALMOND-BANCROFT

Boys basketball: The Eagles (5-5 overall, 5-3 in the CWC small) defeated Wild Rose, 58-50, in overtime on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Zach Mykisen scored 23 points, Randy Berry, 12, and Matt Beigel, 10.
The team lost, 40-26, to Rosholt on Friday, Jan. 4.

Girls basketball: The Almond-Bancroft girls crushed Wild Rose, 54-29, on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Christyn Johnson scored 17 points and Courtney Newby added 12.
