Four SPASH wrestlers headed to state meet
Four Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) wrestlers advanced to the WIAA Individual State Meet in Madison
on Saturday, Feb. 23, by taking one of two top spots in their weight class at the WIAA Sectional on Saturday, Feb.

"The guys came to wrestle Saturday and we qualified the second most wrestlers of any team in the sectional,"
said SPASH coach Gee Pope.
Jake Calhoun (112 pounds) and Grey Pope (171) both won their weight classes. "Grey Pope is wrestling well
at just the right time of the season. He looks primed for the State Tournament," said Gee Pope.
Jon Slezak (135) and Nate Kurszewski (140) both qualified for state by finishing second in their class.
"We are all excited about the trip to state. It is the goal of every wrestler to make it to state," said
Gee Pope. "Jake and Grey are making their second trip and look ready to go for bigger things this time."
Also placing for SPASH were Dan Pawelski (third place at 152), Kevin Duda (fourth place at 145) and Adam Sandstrom
