SPASH
Boys basketball: The
Panthers (11-6) overall, 9-4 Wisconsin Valley Conference) beat Wisconsin Rapids, 56-53, on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Ryan
Taggatz scored 13 points and Phil Lazarski and Dan Osili each added 10.
The team lost, 64-51, to Rhinelander on Friday, Feb. 1. Taggatz led the team with
20 points.
Girls basketball: The SPASH girls (8-11
overall, 6-8 WVC) lost, 36-33, to Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Kara Kujawa led the team with 14 points.
The team defeated Rhinelander, 52-51, on Friday, Feb. 1. Ashley Konopacki scored
13 points in the win and Kujawa added 12.
Hockey: The Panthers (16-2-1 overall,
12-2-1 WVC) defeated D.C. Everest, 3-1, on Tuesday, Feb. 5). Brad Soik, Ted Baier and Joe Pavelski scored in the
win.
The team beat Merrill, 8-4, on Thursday, Jan. 31. Jimmy Haluska had a hat trick
on the night, Pavelski scored twice, and Mark Lutz, Nate Alm and Jay Wolf each scored once.
Wrestling: The team took third place
at the WVC tournament at Rhinelander on Saturday, Feb. 2, and defeated Wausau East, 73-0, on Thursday, Jan. 31.

Swimming: The Panthers won the WVC conference
championship by winning the conference meet at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday, Feb. 2. The
team scored 400 points while second-place Rhinelander scored 356 and third-place Wausau East/West scored 274.
Andy Menzel took first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:15.79) while teammate Ted Conachen
took second. Geoff Thill won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:09.01. Jacob Nantell won the 50-yard freestyle
in 22.42 followed closely by Josh Siebert in second-place.
Jon Ronzani won the 100-yard butterfly in 56 seconds. Menzel (5:10.95) and Thill
finished first and second in the 500-yard freestyle.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Menzel, Nantell, Evan Prince and Siebert took first in 1:33.01 while 400-yard
freestyle relay team of Conachen, Menzel, Nantell and Ronzani also won its race (3.23.8).
PACELLI
Boys basketball: The
Cardinals (5-11 overall, 5-7 Central Wisconsin Conference large division) lost, 72-68, in overtime to Wittenberg-Birnamwood
on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Derrick Lepak scored 16 points, Jim Milkowski added 12, Brad Heeg chipped in with 11 and Ahren
Cashin finished with 10.
The team beat Marion, 57-49, on Friday, Feb. 1. Jake Owens led the team with 21
points while Lepak added 17.
Girls basketball: The Pacelli girls
(6-11 overall, 6-7 CWC large) lost to Wittenberg-Birnamwood, 49-32, on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Emily Radomski led the
team with 10 points.
The team beat Marion, 44-36, on Friday, Feb. 1. Stephanie Fischer scored 16 points
to lead the team.
Wrestling: The team finished 10th at
the CWC meet on Saturday, Feb. 2. Bob Klosinski finished third at 189 pounds for the Cardinals.
AMHERST
Boys basketball:
The Falcons (9-8 overall, 8-5 CWC large) lost, 59-47, to Weyauwega-Fremont on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Travis Bassett led
Amherst players in double figures with 17 points. Tim Olson scored 12 and Scott Nykl had 11.
The team lost to Bonduel, 67-53, on Thursday, Jan. 31. Bassett had 21 points.
Girls basketball: The Amherst girls
(11-7 overall, 9-5 CWC large) lost, 60-57, to Weyauwega-Fremont on Tuesday, Feb. 5. See story page 18.
The team lost to Bonduel, 45-41, on Friday, Feb. 1. Jamie Krutza led the team in
scoring with 18 poinst and Molly Simkins added 12.
Wrestling: The team finished fifth at the CWC meet on Saturday, Feb. 5. Casey Giese (112 pounds), Matt Rice (145),
Devin Groshek (160) and Lee Schultz all finished third in their weight classes.
ROSHOLT
Boys basketball: The
Hornets (11-4 overall, 10-3 CWC small) trounced Bowler, 73-50, on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Brad Zdroik scored 19 points
in the win, joining four other Rosholt players in double figures: James Kosmalski (14), Dane Zdroik (11), Adam
Macht (10) and Matt Zdroik (10).
The team lost, 66-44, to Gresham on Friday, Feb. 1. Dan Zdroik scored 22 for the
Hornets.
Girls basketball: The Rosholt girls
(17-1 overall, 13-1 CWC small) defeated Bowler, 45-27, on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Aubrey Rice led the team with 17 points.
The team trained Gresham, 44-13, on Friday, Feb.1. Emily Steines led the team with
12.
Wrestling: The team finished fourth
at the CWC meet on Saturday, Feb. 2. Donnie Carter finished second in the 171-pound weight class.
ALMOND-BANCROFT
Boys basketball: The
Eagles (11-4 overall, 10-3 CWC small) beat Wild Rose, 51-47, on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Adam Berry scored 14 points to
lead the team and Randy Berry scored 10.
The team beat Iola-Scandinavia, 66-57, on Friday, Feb. 1. Randy Berry, Adam Berry
and Zach Mykisen each scored 11 points in the win.
Girls basketball: The Almond-Bancroft
girls (9-9 overall, 7-7 CWC small) stomped Wild Rose, 57-24, on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Christyn Johnson led the team
with 13 and Courtney Newby added 10.
The team beat Iola-Scandinavia, 65-58, on Friday, Feb. 1. Newby led the team in
scoring with 20 points, Heather Wittig added 18 and Johnson scored 13.
