SPASH
Boys basketball: The Panthers (11-7
overall, 9-5 Wisconsin Valley Conference) lost, 64-52, to D.C. Everest on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Ryan Taggatz scored
25 points in the win.
Girls basketball: The SPASH girls (9-11
overall, 7-8 WVC) defeated D.C. Everest, 70-68, in double overtime on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Kara Kujawa scored a game-high
28 points and Ashley Konopacki added 10.
Wrestling: The team finished second
at the WIAA Regional at Waupaca on Saturday, Feb. 9. SPASH finished with 211 points, while first-place Wisconsin
Rapids finished with 236. The Panthers had four individual champions, with Jake Calhoun (119), John Slezok (135),
Kevin Duda (145) and Grey Pope (171) all winning their weight classes.
The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the WIAA sectional in New
London, so in addition to the four champions, Brandon Raikowski (112, third place), Steve Bachinski (135, third),
Nate Kurszeski (140, second), Dan Pawelski (152, second), Josh Przekurat (160, fourth), Adam Sandstrom (189, third)
and Justin Cieslewski (275, third) will advance to the sectional.
Hockey: The Panthers beat Wausau East,
15-0, (17-2-1 overall, 13-2-1 WVC) on Thursday, Feb. 7. The win won them a share of the WVC title (Wisconsin Rapids
Lincoln was also 13-2-1 in the WVC). Blake Porter had a hat trick on the night; Joe Pavelski, Josh Yach, Nate Alm
and Jimmy Haluska each scored twice; and Pat Ligman, Ben Roth, Brian Soik and Tanner Gruber each scored once.
Swimming: The team finished third at
the WIAA Division 1 Sectional in Eau Claire on Saturday, Feb. 9, and qualified for the state meet in seven events.
The 400-freestyle relay team of Ted Conachen, Andy Menzel, Jacob Nantell and Jon Ronzani won the sectional title
in 3:21.88 and will go to state. The 200-meter medley team (1:45.64) of Conachen, Ronzani, Josh Siebert and Geoff
Thill also advanced to state as will the 200-meter freestyle team of Menzel, Nantell Siebert and Thill (1:32.93).
Nantell will compete individually at state in the 50-meter freestyle (2:47) and
the 100-meter freestyle (50.15). Menzel will compete at state in the 500-meter freestyle (5:07.4) and Conachen
will swim in the 100-meter backstroke (57.69).
Gymnastics: The
Panthers defeated Eau Claire Memorial, 140.375-135.725, on Monday, Feb. 11. See story page 22.
PACELLI
Boys basketball: The
Cardinals (5-13 overall, 5-9 Central Wisconsin Conference large school division) lost to Bonduel, 66-51, on Tuesday,
Feb. 12. Jim Milkowski scored 17 points in the loss, while Brad Heeg added 16 and Jake Owens chipped in with 12.
The Cardinals lost to Manawa, 65-62, on Thursday, Feb. 7. See story page 20.
Girls basketball: The Pacelli girls
(6-13 overall, 6-9 CWC large) lost, 47-43, to Bonduel on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Stephanie Fischer led the team with
13 points and Emily Radomski added 10.
The team lost to Manawa, 47-41, on Friday, Feb. 8. Radomski scored 10 points to
lead the Cardinals.
AMHERST
Boys basketball: The
Falcons (10-8 overall, 9-5 CWC large) beat Menominee Indian, 83-52, on Monday, Feb. 11. Travis Bassett scored 24
points to lead the team.
Girls basketball: The Amherst girls
(12-7 overall, 10-5 CWC large) defeated Menominee Indian, 69-56, on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Jamie Krutza led all scorers
with 33 points, Molly Simkins added 11 and Lyndsey Allen chipped in with 10.
Wrestling: The team took third at he
WIAA Division 3 regional on Saturday, Feb. 9. Amherst had four individual champions, Al Bohm (125 pounds), Brandon
Wolding (130), Brian Pionkowski (135) and Nolan Kayon (152). The wins earned them spots at the sectional meet.
ROSHOLT
Boys basketball: The
Hornets (13-4 overall, 11-3 CWC small) squeezed out a close win over Tomahawk, 66-62, on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Matt
Zdroik led the team with 21 points, Dane Zdroik added 15 and Brad Zdroik scored 11.
The team cruised past Wild Rose, 57-35, on Thursday, Feb. 7. Dane Zdroik scored
17 points in the win while Matt Zdroik (13) and Cole Firkus (10) also scored in double figures.
Girls basketball: The Rosholt girls
(18-1 overall, 14-1 CWC small) stomped Wild Rose, 40-16, on Friday, Feb. 8. Aubrey Rice scored 10 to pace the Hornets.
Wrestling: The team took fourth at the
WIAA Division 3 regional on Saturday, Feb. 9, and had six wrestlers advance to the WIAA sectional. Casey Giese
was the 122-pound champion. Taking second-place in their weight-classes and advancing were Jaime Yenter (103),
Nathan Budsberg (135), Matt Rice (145), Donny Carter (171) and Lee Schultz (275).
ALMOND-BANCROFT
Boys basketball: The Eagles (12-6 overall, 10-5 CWC small) crushed Necedah, 45-24,
on Tuesday, Feb. 12. Adam Berry scored 11 in the win.
The team lost to Gresham, 64-55, on Friday, Feb. 8. Zach Mykisen scored 16 points,
Greg Otto added 13 and Berry scored 10.
Girls basketball: The Almond-Bancroft
girls (10-9 overall, 8-7 CWC small) crushed Gresham, 48-28, on Friday, Feb. 8. Christyn Johnson led the team with
12 points.
