Boys basketball: The Panthers (10-5 overall, 8-3 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference) earned a share of first place
in the WVC with a 56-51 overtime victory over Wausau West on Tuesday, Jan. 29. Ryan Taggatz scored 20 points in
the win.
The team crushed Antigo, 59-40, on Friday, Jan. 25. See story page 18.
Girls basketball: The SPASH girls (6-10
overall, 5-7 WVC) lost, 58-55, to Wausau West on Tuesday, Jan. 29. Kara Kujawa scored 17 points in the loss.
The team defeated Antigo, 51-40, on Friday, Jan. 25. Kujawa led the team with 20
points and Katie Rasmussen had 12.
Boys swimming: The SPASH swimmers finished
in seventh place at the Madison Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 26. The 200-meter freestyle team of Jacob Nantell,
Andy Menzel, Evan Prince and Josh Siebert took sixth place while Nantell finished fifth in the 50-meter freestyle
and seventh in the 100-meter freestyle. Rounding out the team's top 10 finishers were the 400-meter freestyle relay
team of Nantell, Menzel, Ted Conachen and Jon Ronzani, who also took eighth in the 200-meter freestyle and ninth
in the 100-meter backstroke.
The team beat Marshfield, 86-76, on Thursday, Jan. 24. Nantell won the 50-meter
freestyle in 22.87, Menzel the 100-meter backstroke (59.67) and 500-meter freestyle (5:08.82), Geoff Thill won
the 200-meter medley (2:08.57), Conachen took first in the 200-meter freestyle (2:00.17) and Toby Koy finished
first in the 100-meter butterfly (1:06.47).
Gymnastics: The team finished fourth
at the Madison Memorial Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 26, with 138.575 points. Westosha Central won the meet with
a score of 144.05. Top-finishers for SPASH included, all-around: Kaity Munsey, 10th; Raenee Bugarske, 12; and Kim
Klosno, 14th. Vault: Munsey, 7th; Carrie Williamson, 11th; and Bugarske, 19th. Bars: Klosno, 22nd. Beam: Bugarske,
8th; Munsey, 10th, Nikki Cruz, 11th; Jenna Weinbauer, 13th; and Klosno, 15th. Floor: Klosno, tied for fourth; Bugarske,
tied for 7th; and Munsey, 16th.
The team defeated Wisconsin Rapids, 140.475-137.175, on Thursday, Jan. 24. See
story page 18.
Hockey: The Panthers (14-2-1 overall,
10-2-1 WVC) defeated Rhinelander, 8-2, on Tuesday, Jan. 29. Joe Pavelski had three goals and three assists on the
night. Ben Roth scored two goals while Jimmy Haluska, Mark Lutz and Ted Baier each had one goal.
The team lost, 2-0, to Wausau West on Thursday, Jan. 24.
Wrestling: SPASH defeated Sparta, 37-15,
on Thursday, Jan. 24. See story page 20.

Wrestling: The
team lost, 53-24, to Tri-County on Thursday, Jan. 24. Joe Groshek won by pin at 171 pounds.
AMHERST
Boys basketball: The
Falcons (9-6 overall, 8-3 in the Central Wisconsin Conference large school division) lost to Manawa, 47-44, on
Friday, Jan. 25. Scott Nykl scored 17 points in the loss.
Girls basketball (1-5 overall, 9-3 CWC
large) defeated Manawa, 67-42, on Thursday, Jan. 24. Jamie Krutza scored 27 points for the Falcons and Molly Simkins
had a solid night overall with 22 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
ROSHOLT
Boys basketball: The
Hornets (10-3 overall, 9-2 CWC small) defeated Tigerton, 63-50, on Tuesday, Jan. 29. Dane Zdroik led the team with
17 points and Brad Zdroik added 16.
Girls basketball: The Rosholt girls
(15-1 overall, 11-1 CWC small) defeated Tigerton, 36-25, on Tuesday, Jan. 29. Tami Scott and Emily Steines each
scored 13 points in the win.
Wrestling: The Hornets (6-12-1 overall,
6-3 CWC small) lost, 53-18, to Wittenberg-Birnamwood on Tuesday, Jan. 29. Matt Rice earned the lone pin for the
team at 145 pounds.
The team lost, 58-15, to Stratford on Thursday, Jan. 24. Donny Carter (171 pounds)
and Casey Giese (112 pounds) while Devin Groshek won by decision at 152.
ALMOND-BANCROFT
Boys basketball: The
Eagles (9-5 overall, 8-4 CWC small) cruised past Port Edwards, 62-42, on Tuesday, Jan. 29. Randy Berry scored
18 points and had 12 rebounds while his brother, Adam, added 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
The team defeated Tigerton, 60-44, on Thursday, Jan. 24. Joel Erickson led three
Eagle players in double-digits with 15 points. Chris Lamb scored 11 and Randy Berry added 10.
Girls basketball: The Almond-Bancroft
girls (7-9 overall, 5-7 CWC small) crushed Port Edwards, 56-36, on Tuesday, Jan. 29. Balanced scoring was the order
of the night with four players scoring in double figures. Beth Turner scored 13 points with Heather Wittig adding
12 and Christyn Johnson and Courtney Newby chipping in with 10 each.
The team lost, 55-52, to Tigerton on Friday, Jan. 25. Wittig led the Eagles with
18 points and Newby added 12.
