Rosholt girls cross country team wins Charger Invitational
The Rosholt High School girls cross country team won the girls Small Schools Division at the Charger Invitational
in Wittenberg on Tuesday, Sept. 4, while the Amherst boys won the boys Small School Division.
The Rosholt girls finished third overall with 91 points, trailing Division 1 power Kaukauna, which had 46 points,
and Lakeland, which had 73.
The Hornets' Tami Scott won the race in 15 minutes, 8 seconds. She was followed by Lindsey Peplinski in 14th, Jackie
Zdroik in 23rd, Nicky Bembenek in 28th, and Laura Simonis in 30th. Other Rosholt runners were Jacki Yenter, 32;
Jamie Scott, 38; and Lisa Yenter, 67.
In the team scoring, Rosholt was first, followed by Edgar with 144, Iola-Scandinavia with 241, Bonduel with 281,
Amherst with 323 and Marion with 406.
Amherst won the boys Small Schools Division with 160 points, Bonduel was second with 173, I-S third with 244, Rosholt
fourth at 245 and Manawa fifth at 360.
Jordan Selbo led Amherst by finishing 16th. He was followed by Brandon Wolding, 24; Jeremy Leck, 33; Scott Hintz,
36; and Spencer Selbo, 51.
The Hornets were led by Brady Staszak who took 14th place. Other Rosholt finishers were Paul Zdroik, 37; Tyler
Staszak, 52; Andy Osowski, 70; and Matt Rice, 72. Other Hornet runners were Casey Giese, Branden Bembenek and Gavin
LaFave.
"For the first meet we ran fairly well, especially for having a long weekend and not doing any real pace
work," said Rosholt coach Mike Trzebiatowski.
"The strength is most important and Tami Scott beat one of the top runners in the state because of a punishing
pace," Trzebiatowski said. "She can do that because she has done her homework. Junior Lindsey Peplinski
looks promising while sophomore Jackie Zdroik is training well. Our fourth through seventh runners were in a very
tight pack, which will help us."
Trzebiatowski said the boys team have some work to do as the training increases. "Brady Staszak ran OK,"
he said. "He had some trouble at the start with his shoe getting torn off his foot but he ran himself back
into 14th place."
Trzebiatowski also said the junior varsity girls looked strong, taking first, second, third and fifth places. Kaitlin
Ferg took first, nipping her sister Kassie by one second, in a time of 18 minutes 36 seconds. Kati Kluck was third
and Sara Omernik fifth. |
