SPASH

Football: The Panthers (4-4 overall, 3-4 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference) lost, 21-14, in overtime to D.C. Everest on Friday, Oct. 12. Quarterback Ted Schlafke had a solid day playing for injured starter Jake Jahnke, completing six of 14 passes for 140 yards. He hit Nate Olsen for a 65-yard scoring strike in the first quarter. Eric Napiwocki, who rushed for 76 yards on 24 carries, accounted for the team's other score on a one-yard run.

Volleyball: SPASH defeated Wisconsin Rapids, 3-0, in the WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal on Tuesday, Oct. 16. Ashley Konopacki led the team with 21 kills and Sam Polito added six kills.

The Panthers (12-4 in the WVC, 25-14-9 overall) lost to Antigo, 3-1, on Thursday, Oct. 11. Megan Slattery twisted her ankle during the first game of the night and did not return. Megan Wehrwein had 23 kill assists for the team while Konopacki led in kills with 15.

Tennis: Lauren Hom lost her bid for a fifth-place finish in the WIAA State Individual Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 13. Hom lost to Lexi Golden of Nicolet, 6-2, 5-7, 2-6. Had Hom won, she would have taken fifth at state.

Hom defeated Christina Muehlmeier and Alex Burleigh, but lost to No. 2 seed Elin Amerson on Friday, Sept. 12.

The Panthers' No. 2 doubles team of Jenna Weinbauer and Jackie Baier made it to the round of 16 at the tournament by beating Jaime Jackson and Emily Hoy, but were eliminated after losing to Nikki Rosen and Shayna Illingworth.

Weinbauer and Baier defeated Celena Knight and Ashley Lane on Thursday, Oct.11, to advance in the WIAA State Individual Tournament. The No. 1 doubles team of Alexus Edberg and Jill Saiddison lost to Jeannie Cullen and Brittany Durfee.

Cross Country: The SPASH boys and girls team both took first place at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Cross Country meet on Saturday, Oct. 13, in Wausau.

Chris Solinsky led the way for the boys team by finishing first in 16:32. Emma (15:46) and Kara (15:30) Tauchmann paced the girls, finishing first and second.

Kim Klosno (11), Zoe Brown (12) and Jackie Kropp (19) finished in the top 25 for the girls as did Quinn Baumberger (9), Luke Langhorst (11), Mickey Katz (13), Justin Young (20) and Tommy Winkelman for the boys.

Soccer: The Panthers (5-4-1 in the WVC, 7-10-4 overall) ended their regular season in fifth place in the WVC after losing, 2-0, to Rhinelander on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Swimming: The SPASH girls finished 14th at the Homestead Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13.

The Panthers were handed their lone WVC loss of the season by Rhinelander on Thursday, Oct. 11. Sharisa Hillstead took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200 freestyle. Liz Herder won the 50 freestyle and the 200 relay medley team of Jesse Thompson, Hillstead, Herder and Callie Wild also took first.

PACELLI

Football: The Cardinals (5-1 in the CWC large, 7-1 overall) crushed Amherst, 41-6, on Friday, Oct. 12. The team played a nearly flawless game, racking up more than 400 yards of total offense. Cardinal running backs Ahern Cashin and Jeff Herzog both had big nights, rushing for 122 and 92 yards respectively. Cashin also scored twice and Herzog once.

Quarterback Brad Heeg also ran for a score and threw for another (an 18-yarder to Jake Owens). Heeg passed for 180 yards on the night. Jim Milkowski, who also had an interception, led the team in receiving with 85 yards. Owens ended up with 77.

Cross Country: The girls finished seventh at the CWC conference meet. See story page 19.

Volleyball: The team defeated Northland Lutheran, 3-0, in the first round of the WIAA Division 4 regional on Tuesday, Oct. 16. Toni Johnson led the team with 32 assists while Vicky Mallek chipped in eight kills and Emily Radomski added seven kills.

The Cardinals (15-1 in the CWC large) won their first CWC large crown in only their second year in the conference by defeating Menominee Indian, 2-0, and Manawa, 2-0, at the Menominee Indian Triangular on Thursday, Oct. 11. Radomski had eight kills while Mallek had seven. Setter Toni Johnson had 35 assists and four aces on the night.

AMHERST

The Falcons (3-3 in the CWC large, 4-4 overall) lost, 41-6, to Pacelli on Friday, Oct. 12. Despite a rough night for the team, running back Derek Konkol still managed to roll up 141 rushing yards on the night. The team's lone score came on an eight-yard run by Kris Blenker.

Cross Country: The boys finished second and the girls team in fourth at the CWC conference meet. See story page 19.

Volleyball: The team (20-9-4 overall) defeated Bonduel, 3-2, in a WIAA Division 3 regional match on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Molly Simkins led the team with 23 kills and five solo blocks and three assisted blocks. Suzy Helbach had 16 kills and Amber Juris had 21 service points and seven aces. Margo Borgen had 29 assists and Lyndsey Allen added 22 assists and 10 digs.

The Falcons split a pair of matches in a CWC large triangular on Thursday, Oct. 11. The team defeated Shiocton, 2-1, and lost to Wittenberg-Birmanwood, 3-0.

Borgen had 21 service points, six aces, 25 assists, four digs and four block kills despite a pulled hamstring. Simkins led the team with 24 kills and Jamie Krutza had 18 kills.

ROSHOLT

Football: The team (7-0 in the CWC small, 8-0 overall) defeated Port Edwards, 28-14, on Friday, Oct. 12, to clinch a share of the conference title. A.J. Wiza scored on a pair of runs for the Hornets and Brad Zdroik hit Randy Printz with a 5-yard scoring pass.

Printz also tossed a 70-yard touchdown bomb to James Kosmalski on an option play.

Cross Country: The girls took first and the boys third at the CWC conference meet. See story page 19.

Volleyball: The Hornets beat Menominee Indian, 3-0, in the opening round of the WIAA Division 3 regional on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Katie Kosobucki had 17 service points, 14 assists and two aces while Amber Groshek chipped in with five kills. Allie Larson had four kills.

Rosholt defeated Almond-Bancroft, 3-0, in the Rosholt Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13.

The Hornets defeated Port Edwards, 3-0, on Thursday, Oct. 11. Stephanie Wierzba had 12 kills and Kosobucki had 21 assists.

ALMOND-BANCROFT

Football: The team defeated Wild Rose, 28-6, on Friday, Oct. 12. See story page 18.

Volleyball: The Eagles' (4-22 overall) season ended on Tuesday, Oct. 13, with a 3-0 loss Port Edwards in the WIAA Division 4 regionals. Mandy Turzinski had two kills and eight assists, Alicia Dill had eight service points and four kills, while Cristyn Johnson added six kills and six digs.

The team lost, 3-0, to the Rosholt Hornets, but won, 3-0, against Wild Rose at the Rosholt Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Jade Gutke led the team with 12 service points, five aces, four assist kills and three block kills.
