SPASH
Football: SPASH
(3-3 in the Central Wisconsin Valley Conference, 4-3 overall) lost to Wisconsin Rapids, 35-7, on Saturday, Oct.
6.
Rapids dominated the game by racking up 358 rushing yards on the day. SPASH's lone
score came on one-yard run by Josh Jeffers in the fourth quarter. The Panthers were short handed for the game as
starting quarterback Jake Jahnke didn't play after suffering an ankle injury in practice earlier in the week.
Girls Tennis: The team earned its
first ever trip to the WIAA Division 1 Team State Meet by winning the Oshkosh West Sectional on Thursday, Oct.
4. The team is also sending its No. 1 singles player and its No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams to the State Individual
Meet. For more on the team, see story page 18.
Girls Swimming: The
Panthers came up with a pair of victories, over La Crosse Central (112-58) and La Crosse Logan (128-30), at home
on Tuesday, Oct. 9. See story page 18.
The team lost to Eau Claire Memorial in a nonconference meet on Thursday, Oct.

Volleyball: SPASH (12-3 in the Wisconsin
Valley Conference, 25-19-9 overall) swept Wausau West on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
Mindy Slattery and Ashley Konopacki led the team with 10 kills each. Sam Polito
added five kills. Megan Werwein had 21 assists for the squad.
Boys Soccer: The Panthers defeated Wausau
East, 1-0, in the first round of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
Dan Schmeekle scored the teams' lone goal in the win. The Panthers are playing
for fourth place in the conference.
The team was held scoreless at the Eau Claire Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 6.
The team tied Eau Claire Memorial, 0-0, and lost, 2-0, to Eau Claire North.
The Panthers lost, 3-1, to Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln on Thursday, Oct. 4. Scott
Ensign scored the lone goal for SPASH off an assist by Dan Schmeeckle.
Cross Country: Stevens Point won both
the boys and girls titles at the Wisconsin Rapids Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 6. Quinn Baumberger was the top
boys finisher for SPASH, taking second place in 16:41. Emma Tauchman led the girls team by finishing fifth, while
her sister, Kara, finished eighth.
PACELLI
Football: Pacelli
(4-1 in the Central Wisconsin Conference large schools division) lost to Wittenberg-Birnamwood, 28-22, on Friday,
Oct. 5. The loss drops the Cardinals into a tie with Wittenberg-Birnamwood for first in the division.
Ahren Cashin scored on a six-yard run, Jeff Herzog on a 13-yarder and Brad Heeg
hit Brian Mannebach with a 54-yard scoring strike for the Cardinals, who gave up a pair of touchdown returns on
kickoffs.
Volleyball: The Cardinals (13-1 in the
CWC large) defeated Wittenberg-Birnamwood, 15-6, 15-10, on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
Kari Heagle had eight kills for the team while Sara Klasinski and Kaitlin Lane
added five each. Toni Johnson had 32 assists and three aces.
The Cardinals split a pair of matches at the Weyauwega-Fremont Triangular on Thursday,
Oct. 4. The team defeated Shiocton and lost to Weyauwega-Fremont.
Emily Radomski had six kills against Weyauwega-Fremont and Johnson had 14 assists.
Against Shiocton, Vicky Mallek had 12 kills, while Radomski added seven and Johnson had 26 assists.
ROSHOLT
Football: The Hornets (6-0 in the CWC small, 7-0 overall) are alone in first place
in the division after crushing Bowler, 54-0, on Friday, Oct. 5.
The team dominated on the ground, with A.J. Wiza rushing for 62 yards and a touchdown,
Randy Printz adding 59 yards and two touchdowns and Mike Sarempa chipping in with 58 yards and two more scores.
Quarterback Brad Zdroik threw a pair of touchdown strikes, one to James K0smalski
and the other to Adam Macht.
The Hornets other score came on a 13-yard interception return by Matt Zdroik.
Volleyball: The
team (9-2 in the CWC small, 21-2-1 overall) lost, 15-13, 16-18, 16-14, in a tight match against Tigerton, Tuesday,
Oct. 9.
Allie Larson led the Hornets with 19 kills, while Aubrey Rice added 14 kills, 10
service points and an ace. Katie Kosobucki had 45 assists.
The Hornets defeated Bowler, 15-6, 15-8, 6-15, on Thursday, Oct. 4. Larson led
the way with 10 kills, 11 service points and three aces. Stephanie Wierzba and Rice each had five kills.
Cross Country: Tami Scott again led
the way for the Hornets by winning the girls individual Division 2 race at the Wisconsin Rapids Invitational on
Saturday, Oct. 6. Scott's win helped the girls team finish first in Division 2 at the event.
AMHERST
Football: The
Falcons (3-2 in the CWC large, 4-3 overall) handed Bonduel a 21-7 loss on Friday, Oct. 5.
Derek Konkol scored twice for the team, on 41- and five-yard runs. Quarterback
Matt Mehne scored the team's other touchdown on a three-yard run.
Cross Country: Brittany Dick finished
second in the Class AA race of the Don Chase Relays on Thursday, Oct. 4, in 16:11. The girls team finished eighth.
Tim Olson was the top boys finisher for the Falcons, finishing eighth in 16:55.
The boys team finished fifth.
Volleyball: The team defended its home
floor by defeating Manawa, 15-8, 15-3, and Marion, 16-14, 15-5, on Thursday, Oct. 4, in the Amherst Triangular.
Jamie Krutza and Amber Juris had five digs apiece against Marion. Molly Simkins had nine kills.
Against Manawa Simkins had four kills. Krutza and Suzi Helbach had three kills
each.
ALMOND-BANCROFT
Football: Almond-Bancroft
(3-3 in the CWC small) routed Tri-County, 25-6, on Friday, Oct. 5. Big plays were the order for the day for the
Eagles. Jason Sanchez scored on a 75-yard run, quarterback Joel Erickson threw a 55-yard touchdown bomb to Adam
Berry and a 57-yard reception by Brian Scheel set up a 15-yard touchdown run by Jacob Warzynski. Warzynski also
scored on a 38-yard run.
Volleyball: The Eagles (2-12 in the
CWC small) dropped a pair of matches, to Iola-Scandinavia and Gresham, on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
Jade Gutke had seven kills and three block kills, while Darlene Turzinski had six
kills. Andrea Beggs had nine service points and 10 assists, while Courtney Newby added eight service points and
11 assists.
The team lost, 3-0, to Port Edwards on Thursday, Oct. 4. Gutke had two attack kills
and two block kills for the Eagles. Heather Buckenberger added four attack kills and Beggs had five assists.
