Area teams shine at CWC Cross Country Meet

Rosholt senior Tami Scott led the Hornets to the team championship at the Central Wisconsin Conference meet on Thursday, Oct. 11, by taking first place in the girls race in 14:42.

The victory also earned Scott the CWC individual title. "Tami Scott finished her conference career with three individual conference titles. That's a tremendous accomplishment," Hornets coach Mike Trzebiatowski said.

Scott didn't carry the team all on her own though. Lindsey Peplinski earned all-conference honors by finishing sixth, with teammates Jackie Zdroik (10), Nicky Bembenek (12), Jacki Yenter (13), Kati Kluck (17), Sara Omernik (18) and Laura Simonis (23) all making strong showings. "We had a very good race with nearly everyone running a season best time," Trzebiatowski said.

The Amherst girls finished fourth with Brittany Dick leading the way, finishing third in 15:32. Lindsey Groshek was the next Falcon to finish in 21st. Jessie Starr (32), Jackie Hucke (33), Christy Cloninger (34), Melanie Ott (35), Megan Bronk (43) and Katie Stuczynski (45) also raced for the Falcons.

The Pacelli girls finished seventh in the team meet. Angela Peters led the way for the Cardinals' finishing 14th in 16:57. Katie Hansel (30), Beth Boden (36), Christy Nowak (39) and Nikki Theisen (48) also ran for the team.

In the boys meet, Amherst tied Weyauwega after the first five runners came in, but came in second based on the finish of the teams sixth runner. Rosholt took third.

Tim Olson paced the Falcons by taking fourth place in 17:14. Teammate Jordan Selbo finished eighth. Brandon Holding (11), Spencer Selbo (15), Scott Hintz (19), Jeremy Leck (31), Jeremiah Osborn (41) and Devin Judge-Lord (45) also competed for the Falcons.

Brady Staszak was the top finisher for the Hornets, taking third in 17:05. Paul Zdroik (10), Tyler Staszak (21), Matt Rice (23), Casey Giese (27), Gavin LaFave (36), Andy Osowski (38) and Brandon Bembenek (43) also competed for the Hornets.

"The boys finished a solid third. We ran as tough as we could, but both Amherst and Weyauwega were a bit better today," Trzebiatowski said. "We were rested and ran aggressively, but faded some at the end."

Jamie Klein finished 16th for Pacelli in 18:39. Fellow Cardinal Nathan Werra (66) also ran.
