Stevens Point Junior High team wins invitational
The Stevens Point Junior High swim team ended their season by winning the Horace Mann Conference Invitational for
the second-straight year. Following an undefeated dual meet season, the girls dominated the meet. "Without
a doubt, this team is one of the best teams this conference has seen in over 10 years," said coach Wendy Fix.
The girls broke three conference records on the way to victory. Brittany Forrest broke the 50 freestyle record
with a time of 26.82 and Lauren Golla broke the 50 backstroke record with a time of 30.72. The 400 freestyle relay
team of Forrest, Kelly Williamson, Danielle Alinea and Golla broke a 10-year-old record with a time of 4:04.95.
Alinea added a first in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 34.5-5.
Point picked up runner-up points in the 50 breaststroke by Forrest (35.10), Golla in the 200 Freestyle (2:07.97)
and the 200 freestyle relay team of Maddy Etrheim, Samantha Henke, Stacy Smrz and Williamson (1:57:98).
Williamson also grabbed thirds in the 200 freestyle (2:19.02) and 50 backstroke (33.24). Carlee Jo Liss added a
third in the 50 butterfly (31.57).
Fourth-place performances were turned in by Alinea in the 100 individual medley (1:08.25), Smrz in the 50 butterfly
(32.23) and 100 freestyle (1:04.36), Henke in the 50 freestyle (29.20) and the 200 medley relay team of Jenna VanHaren,
Jenni Todd, Smrz and Amy Bachinski (2:17.76).
The 200 medley relay team of Nicole Kirsch, Bachinski, Ariel Johnson and Liss added fifth-place points.
Sixth-place performances were turned in by Henke in the 100 freestyle, VanHaren in the 50 backstroke, Makayla Schultz
in the 200 freestyle and Todd in the 50 breaststroke.
Rounding out the scoring was seventh in the 50 butterfly by VanHaren, eighth in the 100 individual medley by Etrheim
and ninth in the 100 individual medley by Liss and the 50 freestyle by Bachinski. |
