YMCA FROSTBITE: The 26th Annual Frostbite
will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1. The event includes a one-mile fun run and walk, five- and 10-mile races and
a noncompetitive five-mile walk. The fun run and walk begins at 11 a.m., the five- and 10-mile races begin at noon
and the five-mile walk will begin at 12:10 p.m.
Pre-race check-in for all participants is from 9-11:30 a.m. in the Stevens Point
Area YMCA All Purpose Room. All races will begin at 808 Isadore St., approximately 2 miles from the YMCA, and end
at the YMCA, 1000 Division St.
Childcare is available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for children ages 6 weeks to years;
the cost is $2 per child.
All participants in the fun run and walk will receive a specially designed Frostbite
ribbon and all participants in the five- and 10-mile runs and the five-mile walk will receive a long-sleeved Frostbite
T-shirt. Awards for first through third place will be presented to the winners in each division of the five- and
10-mile runs.
To add to the fun of the annual event and to get everyone into the Christmas spirit,
the YMCA encourages race participants to dress as Christmas characters. An award will be given to the individual
with the most creative costume.
Participants must register in advance at the Stevens Point Area YMCA. The registration
deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 7 p.m. A late fee of $6 per entry will be added to any late registrations.

GROUND BROKEN FOR YOUTH SPORTS COMPLEX: A
ground-breaking ceremony was scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 21, for the Central Wisconsin Youth Sports Complex.
The event was hosted by the project's sponsor, Portage County Youth on Ice (PCYOI).
The event was held at the complex's site in the 900 block of Badger Ave. in the
Parkdale Subdivision east of Stevens Point.
Construction of the indoor ice rink is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2002, with
a grand opening scheduled for Aug. 1, 2002.
So far more than $1.4 million has been raised in contributions for the community-funded
complex. The anticipated cost of phase 1 of the project, which includes the ice rink, a pro shop, eight locker
rooms, four multi-purpose practice/playing fields and parking, of the project is $1.5 million.
