SPASH boys win Valley outdoor title

The Stevens Point Area Senior High School boys track team claimed the 2001 Outdoor Wisconsin Valley Conference boys track title Tuesday at Goerke Field, scoring 178 points.

The Panthers were followed by D.C. Everest with 144; Marshfield, 114.5; Wisconsin Rapids, 83; Rhinelander, 55; Wausau East, 42.5; Merrill, 38; Wausau West, 36; and Antigo, 10.

The Panthers won eight events, led by Nate Olson with firsts in the 100-meter dash in 10.94 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 50.18 seconds and a second in the long jump.

Chris Solinsky won the 1,600-meter run in 4:24.25 and the 3,200-meter run in 9:50.59.

Steve Baumhofer captured the high jump title with a jump of 6 feet, 8 inches.

Ryan Kawski won the discus with a throw of 162 feet, 3 inches.

Corey Flisakowski won the 200-meter dash in 22.22 seconds, and added a second in the 100.

The eighth first place was registered by the 4x200-meter relay team in 1:31.83.

Also finishing second was Chad Erspamer in the triple jump and high jump.

Baumhofer picked up a third in the long jump; Quinn Baumberger a third in the 3,200; Josh Kujawa a third in the 800 and 1,600; Chase Kostichka a fourth in the triple jump and an eighth in the 200; Kyle Patoka a fourth in the 1,600 and an eighth in the 3,200; Adam Dow a fifth in the shot put; Kris Burclaw a sixth in the discus; and Phil Lazarski a sixth and Aaron Hauser a seventh in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.

In addition to the 4x200 relay team, the 4x100 and 4x800 relays were fourth and the 4x400 relay was sixth.
