SentryWorld hosts US Open qualifier

SentryWorld is hosting a 2001 U.S. Open Local Qualifying Tournament sanctioned by the U.S. Golf Association and the Wisconsin State Golf Association on Monday, May 14.

The top four golfers will advance to a second qualifying round on June 4 and 5, and the qualifiers at the second-round sites will advance to the USGA Open at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., on June 14-17.

The event at SentryWorld has attracted 54 golfers from Wisconsin and nearby states, including Jason Allen of Stevens Point Country Club. The field includes 27 amateurs, 26 professionals and one reinstated amateur.
Allen will be among the golfers teeing off at 8 a.m. Monday. The golfers will play the black "tournament" tees, a course that is 6,830 yards and a par 72.

This is the first year SentryWorld, ranked among the top courses in the state, has been the site of a U.S. Open Local Qualifier. The course has hosted several other tournaments, including Wisconsin Professional Golfers' Association events.
