Pacelli
Baseball: The
Cardinals came back to tie the score at 7-7 in the sixth inning against Manawa on Thursday, May 10, but Manawa
put together four singles in the bottom of the seventh for an 8-7 victory.
Trailing 7-3 in the sixth inning, the Cardinals scored four times to tie the score
but then went scoreless in the seventh.
"We battled back to make a game of it," said Cardinal coach Wayne Sankey.
"The early errors put us in a hole. We need to play better defense in order to win games."
Four Cardinal errors in the game helped Manawa jump out to a 6-0 lead.
David Blaha led Pacelli with three hits and two runs batted in. Adam Brazzale and
James Hackl each chipped in two hits.
Amherst
Golf:
The regular season came to a close the same way it started this season for the Amherst golf team in its win over
Wisconsin Rapids Assumption at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids Tuesday, May 15.
Amherst's 164 over Assumption's 185 raised the Falcons dual record to 20-0 on the
season. Matt Clinton led all scorers with a 38 and Brian Pionkowski followed with a 39. Jeff Cloninger 43, Jeremy
Sherf 44, Andy Harvey 46 and Mike Borgen 50 were the other scores for Falcons.
Amherst now prepares for WIAA Regional play on Tuesday, May 22, with nine other
teams in a 10 a.m. start at the Ridges.
Amherst continued its winning ways at the Wausau Country Club on Monday, May 14.
Amherst shot a 154, Wisconsin Rapids Assumption had 182 and Wausau Newman rounded out the triangular with a 192.
Amherst was lead by Sherf with an even par 35, followed by Pionkowski with a one over 36. Clinton shot a 41, Harvey,
Cloninger and Borgen each shot a 42.
Rosholt
Baseball: The
Hornets captured the Central Wisconsin Conference Small Schools title Tuesday with a 6-2 victory over Tigerton.
The Hornets, now ranked fifth in Division 3, were 11-1 in conference and 16-2 overall.
Randy Prince led Rosholt with three hits and two runs batted in. Bryce Damask added two hits, including a double
and a home run.
On the mound, Brad Zdroik and Damask combined to limit Tigerton to one hit while striking out seven and walking
six.
