Almond-Bancroft, Rosholt win invite

Almond-Bancroft High School won the boys competition while Rosholt High School won the girls at the 2001 Pacelli Invite Track & Field Meet Saturday, May 5, at Colman Track at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The Almond-Bancroft boys scored 102.5 points, finishing ahead of Rosholt with 89, Wild Rose with 84, Wisconsin Rapids Assumption with 69, Athens with 67, Wausau Newman with 57, Pacelli with 46.5, Marshfield Columbus with 40 and Shiocton with 19.

The Rosholt girls scored 198.5 points, Athens had 77; Wild Rose, 57.5; Wausau Newman, 55; Shiocton, 51; Almond-Bancroft, 50; Pacelli, 46; Marshfield Columbus, 36; and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, 34.

Leading the Almond-Bancroft boys with first-place finishes were Gabe Lopez in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 42.07 seconds and the 4-by-400-meter relay team in 3:47.67.

The 4-by-800-meter relay team was second, the 4-by-200-meter relay team third and the 4-by-100-meter relay team fourth.

Lopez also took a third in the 200-meter dash and a sixth in the long jump.

Jacob Warzinski added a second in the 400-meter dash and fourths in the high jump and 100-meter dash.

Matt Cummings was third in the 400 meters and fifth in the high jump; Chris Lamb third in the triple jump; Brian Scheel fourth in triple jump and tied for eighth in high jump; Sam Danforth fourth and Vince Konczak fifth in the intermediate hurdles; Mike Johnson sixth in the 1,600-meter run; Larry Sanchez seventh in the 3,200-meter run; and Heslyn Menadue eighth in shot put.

Rosholt was led by first-place finishes from Brady Staszak in the 3,200 meters in 10:32.65; Luke Lane in the triple jump with 38 feet, .05.5 inches; and the 4-by-800 relay team in 9:36.90.

Nathanial Miller captured a second in the triple jump and a third in the intermediate hurdles, Brian Packer finished second in the long jump, and Andy Hartvig took second in the discuss and fifth in the shot put.

The 4-by-400 relay team was second in that event and the 4-by-100 relay team was fifth.

Also earning points for the Hornets were Paul Zdroik with a fourth in the 3,200 meters, Josh Napiwocki with a fourth in the long jump and Gavin Lafave with a seventh in the 400 meters and an eighth in the triple jump.

For Pacelli, Greg Snow took first place in the pole vault with 11 feet, six inches.

Tim Schwarz took third in the long jump and eighth in the 100 meters; Jordan Wojtalewicz third in the shot put, fifth in the discuss and seventh in the high jump; Jamie Klein fourth in the pole vault and eighth in the 3,200 meters; and Jeremy Proulx sixths in the shot put and discuss; and Adam Vannieuwenhoven tied for eighth in the high jump.

Pacelli's 4-by-800 relay team added a fourth-place finish.

Rosholt won the girls title and took firsts in five events. Tasha Check won the 400-meter dash in 1:02.60; Nicky Bembenek the 3,200-meter run in 13:19.97; Kendra Kazemba the 300-meter low hurdles in 50.24; Steph Wierzba the shot put with 32 feet, 7.25 inches; and the 4-by-800 relay team in 10:51.87.

Taking seconds for the Hornets were Check in the 200-meter dash, Tami Scott in the 800-meter run, Jenna Eschenbauch in the 300-meter low hurdles; and Katie Kirchoff in the pole vault.

Thirds went to Scott in the 400 meters, Lindsey Peplinski in the 800 meters, Jacki Yenter in the 1,600 meters, Lisa Yenter in the 3,200 meters, Karrina Lavick in the pole vault, Kari Kurszewski in the discuss and the 4-by-400 relay team.

Fourths went to Kate Flick in the 800 meters and long jump, Jacki Zdroik in the 1,600 meters, Eschenbauch in the long jump and high jump, Angie Bricko in the discuss and the 4-by-100 and 4-by-200 relay teams.

In fifth place were Melissa Arrigo in the 200, Amy Scott in the 800 and high jump, Eschenbauch in the triple jump, Bricko in the shot put and Wierzba in the discuss.

Kazemba took a sixth in the 200, Peplinski a sixth in the high jump, Katie Lemke a sixth in the discuss and an eighth in the shot put, Kelly Zander a seventh in the low hurdles, Lavick a seventh in the long jump and Allie Larson a seventh in the triple jump.

Leading Almond-Bancroft girls with seconds were Lindsey Pionek in the 3,200 meters, Renee Reince in the triple jump and 4-by-400 relay team.

Fourths went to Reince in the 200 meters, Lydia Rendall in the 3,200 meters and Christyn Johnson in the low hurdles.

Rounding out the Eagles scoring were Pionek with a fifth in the 1,600 meters, Cindy Nickel with a fifth in the long jump, Reince with a seventh in the 100 meters and Beth Turner with an eighth in the 400 meters.

Jenni Koch led Pacelli with a second-place finish in the long jump and a third in the 100 meters. The 4-by-100 relay team also took second place.

Nikki Houck took a fourth in the pole vault, and the 4-by-400 relay team added a fifth.

Sixth place went to Val Glodowski in the 400 meters and Emily Swenson in the low hurdles and triple jump.

Closing out the Cardinals' scoring were Katie Fix with a seventh in the 1,600 meters, Krissy Lila with a seventh in the 800 meters; Chrissy Nowak with an eighth in the 1,600 meters and Emily Radomski with an eighth in the high jump.
