Rosholt girls, boys win CWC track
The Rosholt High School girls and boys teams captured the Central Wisconsin Conference Small Schools track and
field championships Saturday, May 12, on their home track.
In the same meet, the Almond-Bancroft boys finished third and the girls finished
sixth. The girls team scores were Rosholt, 218; Iola-Scandinavia, 150.5; Wild Rose, 68; Tri-County 65; Gresham,
52.5; Almond-Bancroft, 44; Port Edwards, 40; Tigerton, 36; and Bowler, 11.
The boys team scores were Rosholt, 137; Wild Rose, 124; Almond-Bancroft, 102; Iola
101; Port Edwards, 78; Gresham, 56; Tri-County, 50; Bowler, 48; and Tigerton, 1.
In the CWC Large Schools meet at Goerke Field in Stevens Point, Stevens Point Pacelli
girls finished second while the boys finished sixth and the Amherst girls and boys each finished third.
The girls team scores were Wittenberg-Birnamwood 125; Pacelli, 119; Amherst, 108.5;
Shiocton, 103; Weyauwega-Fremont, 92; Manawa, 57; Marion, 50; Bonduel, 40 and Menominee Indian, 4.5.
The boys team scores were Witt-Birn, 182; Weyauwega-Fremont, 166; Amherst, 98;
Bonduel, 77; Manawa, 55; Pacelli, 44; Marion, 35; Shiocton, 24; and Menominee Indian, 3.
Rosholt
The Rosholt girls won their 12th CWC track and field championship while the boys
captured their first since 1998.
Rosholt coach Mike Trzebiatowski was pleased with the girls' performance, pointing
out the team score in 31 of the 32 possible scoring positions, with 30 in the top four places. The girls took nine
firsts, five seconds, seven thirds and seven fourths.
"That's showing pretty good top-notch depth," he said. "We beat
a very good Iola team by 70 points. That's special. Everyone did their part."
Senior Jenna Eschenbauch took three firsts to lead the Hornets, tying conference records in the 100-meter hurdles
in 16.5 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 49.5 seconds. Her other first was in the high jump at 5-1.
Senior Tami Scott broke conference records in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:17.4
and the 3,200 meters in 11:36.9. She was also part of the 4x800-meter relay team with Nicky Bembenek and Kaitlin
and Kassandra Ferg that set a record in 10:32.1.
Rosholt won all four relays, including 4x100 of Kate Kosobucki, M. Arrigo, L. Dalton
and Allie Larson, the 4x800 of Kosobucki, Arrigo, Kendra Kazemba and Kate Flick and 4x1,600 of Kosobucki, Flick,
Natasha Check and Larson.
Picking up seconds were Amy Scott in the high jump, Steph Wierzba in the shot put,
Kari Kurszewski in the discus and Kazemba in both hurdles.
Thirds went to Amy Scott in the 1,600, Wierzba in the discuss, Bembenek in the
3,200, Kosobucki in the pole vault, Kelly Zander in the 100-meter hurdles, Check in the 400 meters and Lindsey
Peplinski in the 800 meters.
Fourths were taken by Flick in the long jump and 800 meters, Check in the 200 meters,
Angie Bricko in the discus, Jackie Zdroik in the 3,200, Eschenbauch in the triple jump and Larson in the 400 meters.
Also earning points were Kazemba, fifth in the pole vault; and Zander, sixth in
the 300 hurdles.
Luke Lane took three firsts for the boys, in the triple jump, 400 meters and 800
meters.
Nathaniel Miller took first in the 110 hurdles and added thirds in the 300 hurdles
and triple jump.
Andy Hartwig won the shot put and took second in the discus.
Also taking seconds for the Hornets were the 4x200 relay team and Brady Staczak
in the 3,200.
Fourth place finishes went to Josh Napiwocki in the pole vault and Tyler Staszek
in the 3,200.
Also scoring points for the boys were Napiwocki in the 200 meters, Paul Zdroik
in the 3,200 and the 4x400 relay team with fifths; Brian Packer in the long jump and the 4x800 relay team with
sixths, Packer in the 200 meters and Dean Groshek in the pole vault with sevenths and Brady Staszak in the pole
vault with an eighth.
Almond-Bancroft
Renee Reince led the Eagle girls with a second in the 100 meters, a fifth in the
200 meters and a sixth in the triple jump. The 4x400 relay team took a third; and Cindy Nickel had fifths in the
long jump and 400 meters and a seventh in the 100 meters.
Lindsey Pionek added fifths in the 1,600 and 3,200, Carissa Yonke had a fifth in
the discuss and Beth Turner had a seventh in the 800.
Gabriel Lopez led the Eagle boys with a first in the 300 hurdles in 42.8 and the
200 meters where he set a record in 23.3. He also took second in the 110 hurdles and third in the long jump.
The 4x400 relay team also captured first in that event.
Matt Cummings added a third in the 400 and a sixth in the high jump; the 4x100
relay took third, and the 4x200 relay took fourth.
Jacob Warzinski took second in the 400, fifth in the 100 and seventh in the high
jump.
Charles Lamb took fifth in the triple jump; Mike Johnson a fifth in the 800 and
sixth in the 1,600; Brian Scheel a seventh in 110 hurdles and an eighth in high jump; Jason Sanchez a seventh in
100 and Sam Danforth an eighth in 300 hurdles.
Pacelli
Emily Swenson led the Cardinal girls with firsts in the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles
and triple jump. The 4x100 team also took a first.
Jenni Koch took second in the 100 and long jump and third in the triple jump; while
Emily Radomski added a second in the high jump and a seventh in the 100.
Other point scorers for the girls were Angela Peters, third in 3,200; Krissy Lila,
fourth in 800; 4x400 and 4x800 relays, both fourths; Chrissy Rattle, fifth in pole vault; Val Glodowski, fifth
in 400; Chrissy Nowak, sixth in 1,600; Kim Schulist, sixth in 100, seventh in long jump and eighth in 200; Nikki
Houck, seventh in pole vault; and Katie Hansel, eighth in 3,200.
For the boys, Jordan Wojtalewicz took second in the shot put and sixth in the discuss;
the 4x100 took second; Greg Snow was third in pole vault; Tim Schwarz was third in the long jump and eighth in
the 200; Jeremy Proulx was fourth in the triple jump and sixth in the shot put; and the 4x400 was fifth.
Amherst
Jane Ovanin won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs to lead the Falcons.
Samantha Diver took first in the 800 and second in the 400; Jenna Baker was second in the 200, third in the 100
and fifth in the long jump; Christian Woyak was second in the shot put; and the 4x200 and 4x800 relay teams added
seconds.
Brittany Dick was third in the 1,600 and seventh in the 800; Megan Harvey took
fifth in the high jump and eighth in the 300 hurdles; the 4x100 relay was fifth, the 4x400 relay was sixth; Christy
Cloninger added sevenths in the high jump and 100 hurdles; Amber Juris was seventh in the 3,200; and Liz Heinz
was seventh in the discus.
Tim Olson won the 3,200 and was fifth in the 1,600; while Derek Konkol won the
long jump, was fifth in the 100 and seventh in the 200; and Tim Orlowski won the high jump, was third in the discus
and eighth in the shot put to lead the boys.
Jordan Selbo captured seconds in the 800 and 1,600; the 4x800 relay was third;
the 4x100 and 4x200 relays were fourth; and the 4x400 was seventh.
Also scoring for the Falcons were Nate Peplinski, fifth in the 110 hurdles, seventh
in the triple jump and eighth in the 300 hurdles; Ryan Schulfer, fifth in the triple jump and eighth in the high
jump; Mark Jakubek, seventh in the discus; Eric Engebretson, eighth in the discus; Sam Warner, eighth in the 110
hurdles; and Scott Hintz, eighth in the 3,200.
