Amherst nears goal in fund for lights
The Amherst Coaches Club is closing in on the halfway mark for contributions toward its project of restoring the
Milwaukee County Stadium lights to light the football field at Amherst for the coming season.
The latest donation of $500 from the Tavern League of Portage County brings the total of actual money and pledges
to $14,200.
The club started the project last November after acquiring the lights when County Stadium was dismantled. The club
hopes that the pole supports will be in place by the end of May and the lights will be up by August.
The Coaches Club will continue fund-raising events until all the costs of the project are raised. The main concern
of the club is to complete the project at no cost to the school district.
The next activity will be the 10th annual "opening day of fishing season" brat fry on Saturday, May 5,
near the old fire station in downtown Amherst.
